The game is different now compared to when Rafa was in charge, so it's difficult to judge him against Klopp. Klopp's Dortmund weren't exactly known for their defending as well.

However if you wanna look at a balanced team, look no further than Spurs. Utterly ridiculous side that I just cant stop from praising.

I thought Buvac was the "brain"

Yeah...which would make him responsible for our defensive shape which is when the 'brain' needs to be used.

True. Also worth noting that this Spurs side is about 3 years in the making entering their 4th.

We are only into our 2nd full season with Klopp. Need to keep our players together though.

Agreed, but CB has to be a priority... God knows how Lovern got a new long term deal last year?

What evidence was that based on?

Spurs had a great result last night but first half I hear they were dominated and rather lucky to lead.

Kane's goal gets disallowed for a foul 9/10 times (not saying it was a foul but if a defender goes down like that they are usually given).

Also Auba scored a perfectly good goal that was a yard onside that was given offside.

Great result in a big game for them and they are a good side, but small details change games and perceptions.

As much grief as I give Lovren, if he is 3rd choice the squad is looking like a top4 squad. Consistent top4 places.

Klopp & The Commitee shot themselves in the foot by not buying a CB and I'm sure it's going to smack them in the face multiple times during the course of this season.

No tactics can make up for the brain farts that our defence has on a weekly basis.

There is a middle ground. The issue for me is that if you'd said to anyone on here after the Boro game last year that clinched CL, that we would be lining up with Lovren/Klaven and Moreno as part of our back four for games against City and our first CL game, NOBODY would have believed or been happy with that.
We dropped the ball not getting a centre back in and that is undeniable. Yes we wanted VvD, but we gave that up pretty quickly. For Klopp to not get anyone else in was really poor.
In terms of last night. We missed a penalty and two clear chances. We played very well for an hour against a strong Sevilla team. If we win Saturday then it has been a solid start to the season. 10 points from our first 5 games is pretty much where we would have expected to be with games against City and Arsenal in there.

Sums up my thoughts nicely

I still think a solid DM would turn Lovren into the player we bought.

posted on 14/9/17

A DM wouldn't change the way you would clear a ball for that first goal last night...or all the brainless moments he has as a defender.

Last nights result is fine. Should of won but the way some people on this board are taking you would think we are in a relegation battle with Woy in charge

We are 3 points off the top after playing Arsenal and City. We are still in every competition ffs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Very short term approach. It is September so it's unlikely we are going to be out of contention in the title or CL.

The bigger picture remains the same as always. We can't defend. We need to score a minimum of 3 goals to win games which is wrong.

We had the opportunity to address these issues at the back but failed to do so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We have won two games this season without scoring 3 goals.

That's 50% of our wins.

Making stuff up doesn't help you.

Victor Wanyama was the reason Lovren looked so good at Southampton. Without his (or any DM) protection and we are seeing just how bad Lovren can be.

Again I worry that VVD might be exactly the same without the protection a DM gives him.

I'm sure I'm going to get shot down here as it's a bit leftfield but I enjoyed watching Liverpool play football last night.

There. I said it.

I only enjoy a game when we win because I don't actually like football I just like banter and I can only banter when we win.

When we lose I find taking banter damages my masculinity and makes me feel worthless.

Shout put for Matip last night and his Hansenesque runs. I thought he was poor against City in pretty much everything he did but but much improved last night and took responsibility more.

Spurs are quite a team tbf and Kane is just outrageously good. Definitely a case for him being the best striker in the world right now along with Lewa and Suarez.

Two fantastic defensive signings, Sanchez (Why the fluck weren't we in for him?) and Aurier as well.

What the fluck was he up to with that bouncing ball late on in the second half that he sliced behind him though? I can't understand how he looks so composed on the ball one minute then doing a Djimi Traore the next.

I wouldn't be angry at a side like this for Bournemouth

TAA Gomez Matip Robertson
Can
Wijnaldum Coutinho
Salah Sturridge Ox

Salah to play like 60mins or something.

posted on 14/9/17

Milner & Henderson can also come in for Can & Wijnaldum

posted on 14/9/17

I would put Milner at right back personally.
