Even Studge? He's a class finisher on form. When he's not he just smashes it..

We have moved on since 2013

Sturridge misses more sitters than Salah.

We ain't getting Icardi.

Not sure who is out there that we could get.

Would be nice if he found another Lewandowski though.

It's clear a striker is likely in January or the Summer, unless we see Mane or Salah excel in that position as the season develops.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why cant or wont we get Icardi?

I doubt we will do any business in Jan but if we get CL for next year we should be bidding for players like him.

After that you are looking at Origi level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because Inter are improving, Argentinians like Italy, it's just not realistic.

And to say the level is either Icardi (on brink of being top 10 world striker level) or Origi (young player nowhere near that level) is also silly.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Argentines also like money and winning things (yeah I know that rules us out). I'm not sure what Inter financial strength is at the moment but they are behind, Juve, Napoli and Lazio at the moment.

As for Origi, what I meant is that if we don't go for the top bracket players then we are left with players on the current level as Origi. Origi is still work in progress.

Seems like we only do passing drills in training

Also beating the likes of Mignolet & Karius in training is probably fooling Klopp into thinking our finishing is fine.

And I disagree.

Origi isn't close to being a top bracket player, so there will be other plays out there that are better than Origi but might not be in the top bracket yet and thus more realistic than players like Icardi.

And before you say 'who' that's not my job. It's a big world out there with lots of footballers in it, and just because you or I haven't heard of players doesn't mean they don't exist.

One such name might be Werner though who we have been linked with and is likely more obtainable than Icardi and is at a better level than Origi currently.

Icardi is slower than Firmino and current Sturridge...Plus he's not exactly going to drop deep and feed Mane & Salah like Firmino so I doubt he'll fit into the current setup.

Plus he's a of the highest order....and not the on the field we need in our team...dude is utterly mental on and off the pitch.

We need some nastiness up front. Firmino is too nice. I've lost count of the amount of times Firmino coupd have been in on the goalkeeper if he were more aggressive.

posted on 16/10/17

Wouldn't mind some height and power up front. Problem is those kind of players aren't often good at a high pressing game (Lukaku for instance).

posted on 16/10/17

I agree with that...I'm just saying Icardi comes with a lot more baggage as well.

Very good striker though.

posted on 16/10/17

He's about the same height & weight as Firmino.

posted on 16/10/17

I think the reason he likes Firmino so much is partly because he feels the midfield is strong enough.... yet.

Would not surprise me one bit to see an on the shoulder striker come in once Keita arrives.

Team for Tuesday...Im thinking

Karius
TAA Matip Lovren Moreno
Henderson
Can Coutinho
Salah Firmino Ox

posted on 16/10/17

Robertson for Moreno and I think you've got it right there Liiva. Maybe a start for Sturridge to give Firmino a rest?

posted on 16/10/17

Yeah don't think you will be far wrong with that.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure that's the reason. It could be but I don't think so. I thunk he simply likes a player up top who works hard and creates space for wide players. Players who do that but also are great finishers are in short supply. I think it comes down to who we are gonna kipnap to get Suarez back. It's a shame we mossed out on Sanchez at the time as he would have been the next best thing after Suarez for that role.

Perhaps we have the best we can get for that role and Firmino is a great player let's not forget that. Perhaps it's time to let the head make the decision on a better option than Sturridge for the types of games Firmino struggles in, rather than the heart.

Although before making that decision I would like to see Sturridge get a run of games. He looks as fit as i have seen him in a long time and it looks to be a confidence thing now.

Won't be against Robertson starting...either one, doesnt really matter.

Hopefully we batter them. Like 5 or 6 goals. We really need it.

posted on 16/10/17

If we had won on Saturday we would be in 4th above Chelsea and Arsenal.

we have only won 1 game in our last 5 in the league now. we need to beat Spurs and should play our best team for that game. I would switch it up against Maribor.

posted on 16/10/17

A win against Maribor is more important as the other 2 likely rivals in the group are playing each other...so we need to capitalise on them dropping points.
