I hired a guy based on his CV about a year ago, he had no experience in the industry but I felt he had huge potential(just based on his CV) and I needed to position filled instantly. So I started him on the same salary as somebody doing the same role, who had done it for several years. This person complained to HR and I was called in and questioned on it.

I was told that in future I had to start people on less and if they proved themselves after a year they had to get an increase to the same level as somebody else doing the same role.

If you're wondering, the guy I started hasn't been great and I'm stuck with him. I now wish I had started him on less so that he could find a better paying job easily.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Cant you just put him on a PiP?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have! He's failing it. However it takes about six months to train somebody in the role, which is the role I used to do. We are extremely busy at the moment so I can't get rid of him yet, I just want it all on record so I can do it when the time comes. Also we've been told no more expenses until the new financial year and I know for a fact if I got rid of him now, they wouldn't let me hire somebody else until September.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm, you sound remarkably like my boss...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah the guy is you!

How so?

Well just in case the answer to the last three questions is 'yes'.

Ive no fvcking clue what the answer to the first one is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of interest in what competition do men play 3 sets and women 5?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

When they win in straight sets.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well the maximum ladies play is 3, the minimum men play is 3. Best of 3 vs best of 5.

Tell me how that's equal?

Tell me how women playing three sets is any less demanding on them than men playing five sets.

So what you’re saying is that women can’t perform to the same level for as long as men? Transfer that to any other job and the person who does more deserves more money.

Obvious really.

Is it the men’s fault that women can’t match them?

Men playing best of 5 and women playing best of 3 yet receiving the same prize money is not equal pay.

No. What I'm saying is that women perhaps put themselves through the same pain as men, in relative terms. They may be as skillful but not as physically strong. Transfer that to any jobs which require square heads with strength but not intelligence, then yes, you're correct, which is why you don't see many women doing those jobs.

I see no reason why women shouldn't get an equal share of prize money. They aren't getting a wage based on how many hours they work, they are getting prize money based on how well they do at the tournament.

Anyway, I’ve just read something about us letting Mig go and looking at bringing Adrian in from Westham on a free transfer as Allison’s back up.

I think that would be a good move all round.

It's not equal if I do the same job at one company that I did at another and get paid 5k more for it.

At a tournament you're doing the same job for the company holding it, therefore you should get equal prize money considering you aren't paid based on your hours but your finishing position.

Ok, your company has 2 people doing the same job. You and a woman but you are doing 20% more work than her and getting the same money, you are told that it’s not her fault that you perform better than her.

When the women’s game was moaning about prize money, they didn’t say anything about wanting an equal share. They said they wanted equal money as the men get and that’s where they should have been made to play equal sets, if that’s move the women up or the men down.

You couldn’t wait another 36mins to wake up?

Anyway I’ve had two dreams since we beat Barca, we’ve won in both of them.
