As for the game:
Frimpong was excellent defensively
Kerkez was very nervous and looked really slow
Wirtz was pretty anomalous and a steep learning day that there is no space in the PL
Ekitike was excellent. If can work on his heading then he will be deadly

Dom and Mac did well in midfield
Gakpo always delivers at A field
Salah was excellent throughout

Poor subs and putting Endo at right back but then takes the credit for bringing Fede on.

Mostly how I saw it.
Frimpong though I thought struggled at times defensively but much better than I thought before we bought him, which pre season also showed. Didn’t do much offensively.
Kerkez I disagree with you, I thought he was excellent defensively. However also didn’t do much defensively.
Wirtz was actually man marked by Adams, certainly first half. He struggled with it but did some passes which made you think, oh that’s different and nobody else can do it. Second half got more space but kind of still faded and tired.
Ekiteke I’ve been extremely impressed from day one. Wasn’t a big fan of him being our main striker and was glad when the Isak tempura started. However he looks like he could develop into an excellent player. I may be wrong but I still think his position in this Liverpool team is on the left and he’ll rip it up there, especially if Isak comes in.
Konate was excellent majority of the game but had an awful last twenty minutes. When I saw Gomez was coming in I thought Konate was getting hooked.
Dom and Mac were good but Dom had an outstanding pre season and didn’t live up to it. For me those two are fighting for a place so he needs to do more. Mac Allister had a much better game.
Gakpo was Gakpo. Didn’t play well, scored. For me Ekitike would be a great fit for this system in Gakpo’s position if Isak comes in.
Salah wasn’t great. Although last thirty minutes he turned it on, both with his passing and with his movement. Glad he got the goal. Right footed too which must be rare.
Slot made poor subs which cost us the game against Palace. I felt he did the same in this game. Don’t think Endo needed to come on at right back but obviously he was trying to protect the new players as he brought all off. It nearly backfired. Luckily Chiesa delivered which I think he absolutely can do if given more opportunities than he was last season.
Also annoyed that the kid didn’t get a chance to replace Gakpo. If you can’t earn it in pre season but being excellent then what’s the point of pre season?
Have been frustrated with Slot’s lack of chances for some players, especially young players but it won the league last season so can’t complain too much. Just loved how Klopp could bring in a young player and it had little impact on the team and gave confidence to the player. Something I feel Slot needs to learn to reach Klopp levels.
Some weird praise for Konate who had a stinker throughout aside from one strong header from a corner.
That’ll give Guehi some confidence that if he signs he can end up in the first 11.
Ekitike, superb. Wirtz didn’t have his most effective game but his talent is ridiculous.
Kerkez looked better than the CS and is improving and Frimpong was very good.
Not a good performance all round though and the subs were horrible. But 3 points and we move on.

We should buy Semenyo instead of Isak (Semenyo plays same position as Salah)
We shouldn’t be buying Isak anyway because we should be spending that money elsewhere (despite it being explained on numerous occasions that one doesn’t affect the other)

And yes I would have Semenyo at £70m over Isak at £130m. He can clearly play across the front line (only played left wing 4 more times than right wing in his last 50 games) and gives us physicality up front that we desperately lack.
Isak is clearly a better player but the money is just absurd for an area of the park where we’ve got a good player in Ekitike and could sign another striker in Gonçalo Ramos along with Semenyo to give us the depth we are lacking there currently.
FWIW I don’t think Semenyo is going anywhere but it seems the smarter transfer than breaking the transfer record for Isak.

What a game though. Lots of positives and negative, it was a great watch.
Seeing Salah at the end made me wonder if I have underestimated just how much Jota’s passing may have affected some players though.
Can’t wait for the next match already. The international break is going to be so frustrating, more than normal I think.

Slot usually gets his subs right so I won’t criticise too much, but taking Frimpong off and putting Endo at right back was one of the dumbest subs I’ve ever seen. Genuinely completely flipped the game in Bournemouths favour. Seemed strange at the time but utterly bizarre in hindsight. Never ever want to see that again honestly.
I thought Szoboslai had a very good game for what it’s worth , apart from the casual flick which led to the goal, but you’ve just got to accept those sometimes. He absolutely worked his bollox off for the team. I have to say I’m worried about how open we are in midfield when when Macca and Szobo had good games.
Grav has to come in and we have to play those three I think. Even if it means Wirtz makes way at times, hard decision I know but we need much more control, otherwise Newcastle and Arsenal could get ugly.

Forward to the first game of the season and he gets his first premier league goal in front of the kop in the 88th minute. Now we sign a young promising Italian centre back and we could keep him now to look after him and help him acclimatise.
Yeah against Newcastle we should play 3 or Grav Mac and Szobo just for that balance and control. Especially up against Bruno G, Tonali and Joelinton, they will destroy us in transitions. Then have maybe Wirtz as the false 9 with Ekitike and Salah as wide forwards to come inside.
That Ekitike goal should be something we will be seeing often. He's one of those "lucky" with ricochets and deflections players.

Tbf, I think Frompong had a twinge and had to come off. But agree Endo at RB was a terrible choice. I think he was hesitant to bring Gomez on, but he could have put Szob RB and Endo in MF.
I can’t blame Szob for that goal. Flicks like that can open defences up if they come off and losing the ball in the attacking third shouldn’t be the reason we concede, that’s down to the defence and covering MF imo. He was one of our best players, and the journo’s marked him accordingly. Yet he got pelters on the thread, which utterly baffled me.

Yeah against Newcastle we should play 3 or Grav Mac and Szobo just for that balance and control. Especially up against Bruno G, Tonali and Joelinton, they will destroy us in transitions. Then have maybe Wirtz as the false 9 with Ekitike and Salah as wide forwards to come inside.

That Ekitike goal should be something we will be seeing often. He's one of those "lucky" with ricochets and deflections players.

Slot usually gets his subs right so I won’t criticise too much, but taking Frimpong off and putting Endo at right back was one of the dumbest subs I’ve ever seen. Genuinely completely flipped the game in Bournemouths favour. Seemed strange at the time but utterly bizarre in hindsight. Never ever want to see that again honestly.
I thought Szoboslai had a very good game for what it’s worth , apart from the casual flick which led to the goal, but you’ve just got to accept those sometimes. He absolutely worked his bollox off for the team. I have to say I’m worried about how open we are in midfield when when Macca and Szobo had good games.
Grav has to come in and we have to play those three I think. Even if it means Wirtz makes way at times, hard decision I know but we need much more control, otherwise Newcastle and Arsenal could get ugly.

Tbf, I think Frompong had a twinge and had to come off. But agree Endo at RB was a terrible choice. I think he was hesitant to bring Gomez on, but he could have put Szob RB and Endo in MF.
I can’t blame Szob for that goal. Flicks like that can open defences up if they come off and losing the ball in the attacking third shouldn’t be the reason we concede, that’s down to the defence and covering MF imo. He was one of our best players, and the journo’s marked him accordingly. Yet he got pelters on the thread, which utterly baffled me.
