Let's be honest, the Commonwealth Games was never about being the pinnacle of the sport, but it allows many smaller nations to partake at a major sporting event. That's not meant to be patronising, but it's just the way it seems to be.
In some sports, being commonwealth champion can equate to you being 20th in the world..............

I think it's hilarious that it's been labelled the "friendly" games and Glasgow being labelled a "friendly" city.
One of least friendly cities I have ever visited.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Glasgow is an awesome place for a night out. In general the people are super friendly and have a great sense of humour. The Glaswegian sense of humour is well noted.
However, the normal folks in Glasgow, the average man if you will, are great company. But like Manchester it has it's share of super cha.vs that spoil it sometimes which is probably what you witnessed.
But in general it's a great city, every time I've been it's I've had a great time as long as you have a laugh. If your boring, then you probably won't like a night out there (or anywhere) so much.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Went on a great stag do in Edinburgh, very friendly place. Had a great couple of nights
I must have been unlucky then when I went to Glasgow. There was a poisonous atmosphere nearly everywhere I went and i saw full blown fights almost every bar club I went in.
Not for me......but that happens everywhere I guess.
The Commonwealth is just an excuse for Britain to believe it is still a massive country in World affairs by remembering the days where it used to be. It's not anymore. Should just cancel the whole thing.
----------------
Britain is a collective bud, not a country.
If you want a good time in Glasgow,go in August all the numpties decamp to Benidorm or Magamuff.

Fair enough, the times I've been to Birmingham been the same for me, but that was in broad street which had a really horrible undercurrent to it. Pick any big British city on a Saturday night at kick out time....
...we could learn a lot from the continental cities
Sauchiehall street at 3am on saturday night is one of the sights in Glasgow certainly
At least Oor Wullie made it!!
The only people who refer to glaswegisns as friendly are themselves.
Manchester was suddenly 'the Friendly City' when it hosted the Commonwealth Games.
Never before though, and never since.
India should clean up really (over half the commonwealth population)

India will win the gold medal in the Slow Left-Hand Javelin event.
