Oscar and Hazard?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think Oscar still has a lot to prove, he played well at times last year and scored a few goals but his contribution to a game can be enormously patchy. Personally I still think he's got a way to go before he nails down a place as a Chelsea regular, big season for him.

So no, I wouldn't particularly want Oscar as a swap for Coutinho.

Hazard, like Sanchez actually, is currently a better player than Sterling. I personally had a little bet on Hazard winning PoTY last year - ok, not a great bet but I really rate him and think he's immensely talented.

Would I swap him for Sterling? I'd be reluctant, not because I think Sterling is at his level at the moment but his potential is frightening and I'd like to see where he can go with us.

As for Ozil, lord knows what happened to him last year. Maybe he'll perform this season and just needed a year to settle. I certainly won't be putting money on him winning PoTY though and I just don't think he'd suit the high energy game BR is trying to build at Liverpool.

I would only swap Lucas for Ozil.

Your all nuts or smoking crack.

Sterling has a huge ceiling so can understand that one and tend to agree but Coutinho?

Please stop with this nonsense. Good player without question but is not in the top 5 plalmakers in the fricken premiership. This guy can't even shoot and goes missing for 3-4-5 games.
On his day a joy to watch but calm the f down boys. Barca or Madrid coming in for him will NEVER happen.

I'd bet my life on that one. Not a chance. None. Zero. Nilch.nada. No.

This.

I rate Erikson higher than Coutinho which isn't a dig at Coutinho, I think liverpool fans need to calm down and stop overrating the guy.

Silva
Nasri
Hazard
Oscar
Willian
Özil
Cazorla
Eriksson

Are all better than Coutinho and thats just off the top of my head

Omg..that list

Jagunner - so you rate erikson higher? Great...that's your opinion though and one that we don't agree on.

Coutinho was excellent at times last year, but did have some inconsistency.
What the tools forget is that he is still only 21!

It's a very simple statement to understand when someone says they would not swap sterling or coutinho for ozil and sanchez.

It's so funny that the arsenal kids then have the cheek to say it US that overrates players when they go round saying koscielny is world class

I actually think Coutinho might be a more talented player than Sterling. I think Sterling will go on to be the better player because he's more consistently threatening on the pitch but pure talent, Coutinho has magic moments.

Whether he can ever become a player who is consistently near the top of his game is another question. I can understand why you doubt this but as someone who has watched him a lot I he certainly has the tools.

As for the JAGunner list, without going through each name there are a couple of players there that I'd swap Coutinho for but not many. Not because he's as good as them all at the moment (he's not) but again I'd like to see where he can go with us. For example, swapping a kid that's just turned 22 for a player 4 months off his 30th birthday (Cazorla) wouldn't make a heap of sense to me. Is Cazorla better? Yeah, at the moment but I'd take potential over a player likely to decline over the next 3 years.

Oh dear it's comedy gold from thr spúds again.

Coutinho will be a candidate for POTY this season.

You'll need to take your blinkers off before the end of the season or people will be laughing you off the site.

To be fair, I think both sides have some really good points here.

Coutinho, based on last season, has shown inconsistency and a lack of shooting ability so has to be considered the bottom of these 4 players.

However, Liverpool fans have witnessed numerous absolutely magic moments from him that hint at a fantastic future for the kid. Some of his passes are just sublime (ie his flick for Sturridge in pre season) and his eye for a through ball is like nothing I have ever seen from a Liverpool player before (I'm only 24 so the classic Liverpool teams don't get a look in sorry).

Seriously, sometimes the stuff the guy does on a pitch annoys me it's so good. If he gains consistency as he ages he will be considered one of the best players in the world. That is a massive if though and I think how he does this season will go a long way to showing if he will ever hit those dizzy heights or not.

So a rival fan commenting on another team's player is blinkered, but a Liverpool fan saying a Liverpool player will be a POTY candidate is 100% impartial I guess?

posted on 17/8/14

A rival fan dismissing a player as not better than a list of the players, out of hand, is blinkered.
What is wrong with saying someone will be a poty CANDIDATE?

posted on 17/8/14

What's wrong with him thinking Coutinho is overrated? Is that not allowed?

posted on 17/8/14

But the op is not asking for a critique of his ability. It's a simple question of would you swap.
Anyone would think the choice was between dion Dublin and zidane the way some idiots are going on

I'm not talking about the OP though I'm talking. About those comments in particular.

I agree Coutinho was excellent at times last year but so was Eriksen who I think had the better season scoring 10 goals and they're both 22 btw.

posted on 17/8/14

Overrated based in what though? Thinking he will be a poty candidate? Is that saying he WILL be poty?
Inconsistency has been acknowledged as coutinho's weakness...talent isn't in question.
It's surely quite conceivable that is he sorta his consistency, he can be a poty candidate..no?

posted on 17/8/14

I don't know why he thinks he's overrated but I don't think it's fair to dismiss that opinion just because it goes against your view of the player

Some might think labelling him even a candidate for POTY is overrating him

What everyone seems to be overlooking is that Sterling and Couthino have had a season together and understand how each other plays. Ozil and Sanchez don't have this yet and it is this which makes the Liverpool pairing my choice.

Ask this question again at the start of next season and my view may have changed or (as I suspect may be the case) Sterling and Couthino will kick on and become the force we all want them to be.
