This transfer has everything!

Given us renewed excitement, a real sense of optimism for next season

Target identified, Target in discussion, Target signed! In a matter of days, a breath of fresh air.

Has potential of generating future income, like Danny Graham. He joined Watford on a free transfer, just pocketed the Hornets 3.5million! Davies has similar potential

Certainly putting his stamp on the club, never known we were ever capable of this type of transfer statement

Excellent news. Let's hope Hill can nurture him into a top goalscorer.
At least I believe Davies will be more effectve than Liam Dickinson...

By the way, anyone else notice we've also signed Bobby Hassell's clone today...?

Nice to see you made the transition to this new forum,Madrush.
One or two have fallen by the wayside due to a difficulty in registering,(lunny),
But its nice to have somwhere to banter again.

Good to see a few familiar faces (in a manner of speaking) from the Beeb!

I think Davies could be a great signing, especially if he carries his form from Chesterfield to us! Looks like Hill likes to be transparent with the fans regarding signings, changes are afoot!

Really excited by the fact that we've gone out and got a goalscorer obviously he's not proven at this level but the hillcroft partnership is impressing me so far so as they say at well stronger together U REDS!

what gets me with these transfers is that hill as acted very quickly. so how come robins didnt take up the challenge he surely would have had the same budget as hill as got or was there something else that made robins leave . anyway its bye bye robins and welcome hill bring on next season

I think MR lost faith in his ability to sign good enough players for the club. For every good permanent signing he made, he bought a bad un. In the end he used the scatter gun approach of loanees to fix the deficiencies. PC doesn't want the clubs money frittered away on overpaid prem players who don't always repay the investment with performances on the pitch. They said as much when Robins left and mentioned it again when they signed Hill. Hill strikes me as a confident man who trusts his judgement. It'll be interesting to see what kind of side takes to the field in August. I'm quite looking forward to it tbh.

The loan system was introduced into football to serve a real purpose to lower-league clubs: those who can’t buy, borrow.

Unless you have an owner who uses £50 notes as a napkin, competing for promotion these days is becoming increasingly difficult. To improve, teams need better players; but better players cost money.

Barnsley can't afford to use the loan market at present, its dead money. When we invest in a player we have to be cautious that they don't depreciate in value.

As hard as it is too accept we are a stepping stone club. If we discover talent, like Shackell, we have to have a serious consideration on whether to keep the player for ourselves or risk missing out on financial gain.

These two new lads are the type of player Cryne is wanting too invest in. Put bums on seats, entertain the crowd, help the club progress and just maybe give a return on the fee and wages that he paid out on, if the player moves on.

The loan market isn't an option, Hill is just the guy to find the perfect balance at Oakwell, a constant conveyor belt of talented individuals. He will develop our players in the right manner, hungry for success and knows how to help a player reach his full potential. Which then, hopefully gains a respectable transfer fee which then can be used to strengthen the club in other areas, or be used to unearth another little gem.

One thing both Davey and Robins had in common was the ability to find gems but they also found some real duds in the process.

To be fair they both brought some decent players to Oakwell so should also be remembered for that. No doubt Hill will pick up the odd player who has potential but refuses to use it. A good manager is able to turn these players around and Hill appears to have that ability based on his previous track record.

All I can say is that he has got off to a decent start. So hope he can keep it up and turn some of our lazier players around in the process.
