Books > Tv Show.

Travesty the books are going to be surpassed by the show, However they have made quite a few storyline changes, i would guess that the tv show only explores about half the storyline of the books.

They have also said the storyline diverges during this series, and the show and books will have two different paths to the same ultimate conclusion.

The show is still good, but this series is based on a stronger book than the last (although they have mixed a lot of the 4th and 5th books together.

Up to the red wedding was very loyal to the chronology of the books, since then they have muddled parts from the third book, right to the 5th together.

case in point, brans storyline at the end of the last series was where he is at the end of the 5th book, which is why he wont make an appearance in this series

It's a good watch but it's massively overrated for sure.

I am quite a big GoT fan but I would agree with Neo in that it is overrated. The books are better than the TV series but having read the books as they develop they could do with being more concise and having a few less pointless story lines so in that sense the TV series could well end up being the better of the two but I doubt it. Then again I will be intrigued to see what they include in the TV series this year because they might well try and include an extra season before they catch up with the books to give GRRM enough time to finish the next book, we shall see. I would be very critical however if they did end up overtaking GRRM's books as it is essentally his creation and therefore he should be the one to finish of his own story. I would have also liked HBO to do a special one off season surrounding the storyline before Got involving The War of The Five Kings as it would enhance those who only purely watch the show's understanding of plot clues, general understanding etc.

As much as I like GoT there is too much hysteria surrounding it. Its not yet at least anywhere near the same league as the Sopranos etc.

I was in agreement until "Its not yet at least anywhere near the same league as the Sopranos" popped up...Horses for courses I guess.

GRRM has confirmed that the plot overtakes the books this season.

there is a tentative date of october this year for the next novel.

he has confirmed that there will probably be three more novels, so he can meet this date.

HBO have already altered the last two seasons to give george a little more time, and they wont do it again.

Martins publishers are furious that they have paid for a series which will conclude on TV before print, seeing as they first took the series on in 96? thats a long time and a lot of investment in martin.

The mans a complete and utter tít though.

Sup Herps? I agree about the walking dead. Its just more of the same but I cant stop watching it. Ive invested to much into these characters and will watch it to the end regardless of how predictable and sometimes ridiculous it gets.

Hold on a minute here, I've been saying this for ages and now all of a sudden someone else says it and you agree? Bltch

Which is why I prefer Steven Eriksons superior Malazan Books of the Fallen series (completed).

Martin will now be slightly influenced by the show no matter how much he tries to avoid it. Its no longer his vision but a shared one. Also im weary of sush long breaks as they seem to either mean overthinking it or just not caring. Either one means the flow is disturbed.

Ive read the malazan book of the fallen, and ive got to say i prefer a song of ice and fire (game of thrones)

Well, the first three books at least are superior to any one of the eriksen books, quality dropped off for book 4, but 5 was an improvement.

joe abercrombies first law trilogy is a good read

I can see why some would think that but i guess as a personal preference disagree. Books 2, 3, 4, 8, 9 and 10 far surpass Martins work. Not as books themselves but the overall plots and character growth. Its difficult to see an epic fantasy series judged book by book when really its the complete story told that matters.

Im not denying the power of the first 3 ASOIAF books though. Theyre great. I just prefer the complexity/history/depth and ability to actually like characters in Erikson's work.

Don't get me wrong, I have a great respect for Eriksens work, I just dident find many of the characters likeable, and the character I most liked (karsa) was left unresolved. Like a lot of threads in his story.

I realise some are tied up in the expanded works, which I am yet to read.

Most impressive was his ability to churn out such high quality work every year, I wonder how good it would have been had he taken a little more time over each book, his writing rate is phenomenal
