Does anyone on here think that Warburton's name would even have come up if Weir wasn't his assistant?

Hiring a mate of a mate to do some plumbing or to fix your car is a good idea.

Hiring a mate of a mate to fix a football team? How did that work out when Rangers hired Smith's mate Ally? Or when we hired Dalglish's mate Barnes?

Mick.

Please don't start all of this <crap> again. The question should be 'does he have what it takes todo the job?'. Beyond that, his connections to the club or otherwise don't matter. He has a good track record, is well respected and should do a good job for Rangers. The fact that he has someone as assistant who knows the club and Scottish football well should be seen as a positive. End of.

Actually, the question should really be 'Would Warburton have considered Rangers if Weir was not his assistant?'.

No I wouldn't

But if it turned out that the mate of a mate was actually an overcharging, overrated charlatan who didn't have the temperament to complete a job. then I would be glad.

Especially if the guy who turned up was a smart revolutionary plumber who far from being a one year apprentice, had actually completed his apprenticeship 9 years earlier, and was actually the best plumber in his country.

I think your analogy is very poor, but actually going along with it, I would rather go with a plumber who was recommended than one who wasn't.

given that we have never previously seen a recently sacked English second tier managers linked to either of the Old Firm jobs before

A recently sacked English second tier manager..

You make it sound like he was sacked for failure. He actually over-achieved, but didn't buy into the approach the owners wanted to adopt. So, an over-achiever in the English second tier... I mean you are right... why would we be interested in him. I mean he's got a great work ethic, is good at bringing players through and improving them, gets results, plays an attractive brand of football, etc. Nah, not interested. What, he has an Rangers player as assistant, well great, that's the kind of information we want hear. We'll speak to him. Better just run it by Muck first though....
