What about Justin Rose ?

Hello,

Stenson played well the last tim it was at St. Andrews but admitted that he isn't playing well enough to win it. However it has happened that a golfer has come off a terible run of form to win a major, Schwartzel at the Masters in 2011 for example. That said it doesn't happen that often and major winners tend to come in showing some kind of form.

I think a lot will depend on the weather and in particular the wind. St. Andrews isn't the most difficult course in calm conditions and it stays benign then it will become a putting contest which favours Speith above all others.

However the weather forecast is for windy conditions especially in the afternoons so the course should bare its teeth and level it out a bit more.

I still expect Speith to be challenging though as his Texas background lends favourably to windy conditions. It will be interesting to see how he copes with the cold and wet Scottish summer as he has never been tested in these conditions before. His ability and form however means he is quite rightly favourite.

Johnson's accuracy off the tee should also put him up there although whether he has the mental capacity to win the thing remains in doubt.

Fowler is good player in the wind and it was no suprise he won last week. Phil proved in 2013 it is possible to win the Scottish and Open back to back but it is rare.

Casey an Kaymer are both showing form and have played well at St. Andrew's in the past as has Branden Grace who is also in good form at present.

Louis gets a mention above and as well as the last Open winner at St. Andrews he is also playing brilliantly at the moment. A lot will depend on how his back holds up but if it does I expect him to be challenging.

I also reckon Shane Lowry could be a good outside bet. He is playing well and likes the links.

Finally going much more with my heart than head I would love to see Sergio win it. I mean he has to win a major at some point surely?

I'm going up on Friday. It may be Tom Watson's last ever round in the Open. If it is, I'm not sure I'll be able to control myself

I have money on Rose & Spieth like I have for every event this year.

Want Ricky and Luke to challenge as well.

My hunch is that winner will be among Speith, Schwartzel, and Oosthuizen.

Looks like the morning starters for today will face the worse of the conditions, with sunnier spells predicted this afternoon - advantage to most of the leaders, who will be going out this afternoon.

Won't get a chance to see much today, see you all later.

Sometimes hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I think many were questioning beforehand if the start should have been delayed at 7am this morning due to the winds.

I was also surprised that yesterday they didn't start some groups from the 10th tee given the delays - I mean no-one is going to finish a round starting at around 6pm. Just seems to show a lack of foresight and organisational skills.

Winds may stay like this until well into the afternoon. Reckon Willett could be soul leader by the end of round 2 given the conditions

'Moving' day today - weather should be pretty good for later starters, should be a few low scores out there.........
