Exactly. We keep on waiting for the "right time" to play our youth but when really is this "right time"?
I read this comment which describes the situation perfectly:
"If the results are good, it is "How can we justify dropping these guys (sic. senior players), especially with the risk of a drop in performance that could prove extremely detrimental to the club due to the high level of competition?" And if the results are not good it is "At this point results are more important than anything else, and the points matter far more than giving a youngster some playing time." Even in an inconsequential game midway through the season, owing to Jose’s rather ridiculous rotation policy, it is "It is imperative that our squad players get game time, because their match fitness is extremely crucial at this juncture, as they can become regulars in the event of an injury to a first-choice player, and therefore they need as much match-practice as possible."
We seem to be waiting for some goldilocks period that never comes. After the Southampton game Jose said RLC will get a run of games. He ended up getting 45 minutes... Says it all really.

So its the Boards Fault
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's also the Board's fault that Jose wasn't "supported" in the transfer market this summer...
Or maybe they were hinting at something
Very Clever Board to want us to has a Shlt Season
Maybe they should make Jose ,chairman of the board ,and then he could appoint his own protege ! ,someone like Quike Flores !.
Good article didi.. Il be honest though. I just wana see some better football
However.. Jose is 52..?he is not gna change how he works regardless of how much pressure is put on him. He will do what he needs to do to win for the here and now..
I wouldn't mind it so much if he didn't come out with all the stuff in his first press conference back about how he wants to stay here forever and develop kids and how if he doesn't bring through a youth player he'll have failed etc..
Will he actually work on a players weaknesses? Will he develop the facker? Thats what needs to be done.
100 % agree
If jose drops his attitude and looks at the young players then I'm happy

Although I agree to a point, Ruben has started 3 games and made a few sub apps, and before this season he hasn't played any first team.games where there was something riding on the result.
Is that actually that bad considering.
OP have to agree with you here. If we're not going to play the likes of Loftus-Cheek now then when are they going to play ?
The thing is this isn't just a Jose problem, every single manager we have does the same thing.
This is now a golden chance to use this crappy season to our advantage and start blooding some of these excellent youngsters we have.
Instead though we're not going to play youngsters much this season (as always) and instead we're going to futilely continue to try and get top four which we won't achieve barring a title winning run from now until the end of the season.

JOE-ZAY should quit the managerial business and become a male model while he still has that great head of hair
Maybe, Jose is not afforded the time and the patience to develop youth at Chelsea !! The race for top 4 is a lot harder now. Youth players have to be exceptionally talented tin order to get game time eg.Courtois.
Jose was brought in first and foremost to bring trophies to the club, which he did last season. Whilst the minimum requirement this season would be top 4. These are the objectives/goals set by the board.
The board and the fans knew, what they were getting when Chelsea signed Jose. Even if the board and the fans wants to sacrifice trophies/success or even risking top 4 place, in favour bringing up youth player, I am not sure Jose would your man for the job, he doesn't have the track record for it.
Excellent article. Rated it 5*, first time I've even bothered about that in months. However, comparing our current youth team to United's 'Class of 92' slightly ruins it's credibility. You're pitting fine wine against thunderbird there, it just isn't the same.
But the principle which drove the article I completely agree with. Mourinho's not the manager to pave the way for a youth movement that's for sure, but we can rest assured if he feels a player from the Reserves/U21's is someone he can use and trust, he'll play them without worrying about politics. Varane can attest to that.
We're playing the sort of football now where integrating the right youngsters can only help to shake things up. I see no reason why someone like Loftus-Cheek can't play ahead of Matic for a run of matches? One of the greatest advantages of youth is fearlessness, and my god we need some of that at the moment.

Very true - every time one of RLC/Kenedy/Traore have come on they've shown a willingness to take risks. Whether it be through shooting, taking on players or making high-risk passes.
Not only that, in the games they've played, none of them have performed worse than the majority of our senior players. We have nothing to lose but all to gain. This is a good a time as we'll ever get to blood youth.
The board are backing José despite the horror show of results so we can assume there's little pressure to win. Now it's time for him to either put up or shut up. He's talked a big game about playing youth since he got here but we've seen little evidence of that coming to fruition.

A few cameos don't equal being given a proper chance. He's had 70 mins in the prem, 60 in the champions league and 70 in the league cup. That's around 10% of the available minutes despite us going through our worst start to a season in 37 years.
It wasn't much better last season when we had already won the league and José couldn't even bear to play him for a full 90 on any of our 3 dead rubber games.
Kenedy has got pretty much the same number of minutes but you have to remember he was bought for 6 mil anyways so he's hardly Chelsea youth.
And Traore's game time isnt even worth mentioning to be honest.
That would make a change to see Loftus-Cheek take risks on the pitch.
Kenedy deserves to play more than he has, not fussed about Loftus-Cheek.
Former shows more responsibility, maturity on the pitch and is closer to the starting 11 standard. Latter naive.
Traore even in his one sub appearance agaonst Stoke, showed some sort of authority than I've seen from Loftus-Cheek.
Loftus-Cheek is one of the most laid back, safe players on the ball.
Developing long term strategy. Maintenance of assets, in particular youth development. All important issues that any fan would naturally be concerned about.
How do we know that Jose and board are or not right on top of this. We assume that money spent on Cobham and the youth policy of the last 10 years is being well used. Those rare articles that appear about Roman Abramovic do mention on occasion that these are important issues for him. What do we know and what evidence is there to support the aspirations of the article. I would say as an outsider depending on the media for news , very little.
I agree with Monsy that of paramount importance now is to put a string of wins together. That first, fix the leak and paint the boat after.... Yes any sign that shows Jose interested in his and the clubs future would be welcome, and I for one would like him to say some words to that effect, even if I believe I know his heart has always been there.
Can definitely see why Jose favours Ramires, Fabregas, Matic they all have their overriding defined attributes. Loftus-Cheek is just a prospect who has shown very little to expose his talents on the big stage and to be relied upon for now, in my opinion.
In fact watching youth/u21's/first team apps I've never been one to be absolutely astonished by Loftus-Cheek' performances(nothing groundbreaking), all a bit lukewarm.
While other players exert/impose themselves on the pitch, Musonda being one example.
Finds himself in the first team squad because of physique, no doubt.
Very lucky to be in a privileged position over others, if you ask me.
got to say I agree with cmf's posts here, and was saying it when Mourinho started earmarking him way back in summer/late last season
