So I think my problem is im too much of a fan. Casual person its easily a 9/10, and the same if you have never seen a SW film.

Myself I would say 7.5/8 out of 10. Everything was so good apart from the deathstar run. Just change that 10-15 minutes and the film for me becomes so much better, or if you do do it for once fail it.

Loved all the homage to ANH but the 30 seconds of random planning followed by a success run and destroying something that was 100 times bigger than the deathstar

So close JJ, so close. And this is why i think im the most disappoinred.

Story was good, predictable, but good.

I enjoyed it. Part of me was a little disappointed with certain aspects, as you say the Death Star run and Rey being able to pick up the force so quickly and hold her own in a lightsabre battle (although her history with the force may be revealed and make sense later and Ren was injured at time of the battle).

Generally when I don't think about it too much though, I really enjoyed it. Wasn't too convoluted as some have been, was quite funny without feeling forced and was just generally a fun and compelling film to watch.

I loved it, thought kylo was fantastic as a villain and intrigued to see where it goes with snoke.

Po Dameran was another highlight, didn't expect him to be as fun a character as he was.

The biggest let down for me was phasma. What a waste of a character. She looked badass and all we'd heard before this movie was how she was going to be a kickass female character. She was so under used and when she was used there was no purpose. Such a shame.

Agree about Po and Ren. Look forward to seeing more of Po and I thought Ren was very compelling - him destroying control rooms in a rage was interesting.

Heard some people suggesting there was a previous history between him and Rey and perhaps the reason he turned to the dark side was the force wasn't actually all that strong in him, whilst he felt he needed to be stronger given his lineage.

All speculation of course, but that's half the fun!

Thats a very interesting theory. Particularly given who I believe Reys father to be and how strong he was in the force as opposed to Kylos, which would make sense.

I may have watched it twice now

To be honest I'm thinking she's Luke's. The thing that makes me think it is the way she attacks with the lightsabre - the stab is exactly the same as the way Like goes in against Vader in ROJ.

Abrahms is known for detail, so I don't think this is an accident. Unless it's a double bluff...but I think her and Han finishing each others sentences was supposed to suggest she's Rens brother, but put us off.

I dunno really just the way she attacked was so similar to Luke. I think maybe she was a few years younger than Ren and made him look average, Rens ego couldn't deal with it and he went off the rails. Luke blamed himself and his his daughter to keep her safe, but she still had the training in her and the films events brought some of it back.

Fun to speculate. Especially after a few beers!

Great points guys and couldn't agree more.

Im glad someone mentioned Phasma,or the lack of. I suppose this is a problem with these types of films which instead of being 3 2 hour films they are just 1 six hour film split into 3. Which does look good for films 2 and 3.

As above a nice fun film, and you can tell a sw film made by a sw fan. i know i enjoyed it alot as the 2 hours went so fast. However, this is one case i felt the film could easily have got to 3 hours without a problem.

What is really cool though and what i love is instead of having just luke or just anakin fighting with the 2 sides we have 2 separate indenties on opposite sides of the force who sometimes fall into the middle.

The kylo rages and even rey not understanding the force and almost killing kylo.

Great point guv, i enjoy the fact that ren is never portrayed as darth but darth lite with some major issues. What do people think of Snorke? Do we think the facial scars are trying to give us a clue he is someone from past....

Guv as i said i love all the homage to ANH until the deathstar run. Honestly change that 10 minutes and for me its a perfect film.

Anyone else feeling empty now? Got so hyped and said the other day - 2 more years till the next one and felt really deflated

The logical steps are there. Solo and Léïa have kid made during ewok party. Kid has force, Luke trains kid, kid is evil twisted little sh 1t, Luke feels bad, runs away to swamp planet.....kid grows up with chip on shoulder, joins empire, gets cool red light sabre and continues grand pappy's work

BOOM, he knocks it out the park!

Just seen it. Loved it!

The only criticisms have already been echoed. The planning and attack on the Death Star thingy was a bit rushed. Rey learns the force pretty quick.

Ren was great. Loved the fact that he was an emotionally distressed, tortured Jedi in training. Liked that vulnerability. Hope to see him back to live out his Vader destiny.

Rey as his sister maybe? I only say that because of the sequel novels from years ago.

Bonus points for Iko Uwaus and the guys from Raid:Redemption.

Best thing about the movie was that it felt like a real SW movie. The look, the feel, the story. Would have been very hard to be any better

Glad you enjoyed it Manf. I would say the best movie i have seen this year. I really wish it was closer to the 3 hour mark. The whole film felt a little rushed, but i know i enjoyed it a lot as that 2 hours went quick.

Though story a side it was shot and looked gorgeous, love the new look of the light sabres - 50/50 on the sound. Vehicle, planets etc all looked amazing. Not too sure why they bothered with all the cgi for the little alien woman as basically its the woman from poltergeist/ncis.
