All this chat about Rey and Ren, I’m actually more interested in finding out (a) how powerful Luke has become and (b) who Snoke is.
The trailer didn’t really help either of those questions!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Snoke is pretty damn powerful
And they're saving the good stuff from Luke for the film

Agree he’ll be powerful, just intrigued by the back story. If indeed we’re let in on it.

Can
Would you rule out a rey going dark and ren going light switch?
Also, Ren is a very unique case because he trained as a jedi but then turned yet he hasn't fully turned. He isn't a sith where as Anakin pretty much made the transition from jedi to fully fledged sith fairly swiftly. Now, it must be pointed out that getting most of your body burnt and limbs sliced off helped profoundly but Ren seems like a child wanting to be heard and noticed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst I wouldn’t rule it out, I really can’t see it.
From a story perspective it would be interesting but switching in sides are rare in SW generally speaking. I just find it really difficult to believe that Disney would make witch as big fuss about putting a girl in as their new trilogy heroine and then make her the baddie after 2 films! Doesn’t feel like a very Disney thing to do!
Ren coming.good feels more likely but killing Han was a bit like Anakin’s killing Mace Windu moment - it’s left him nowhere to go because he Jedi/resistance won’t trust him again.
Far more likely i think is the mirror of Luke’s life. Obi-wan his luke in a desert plant to keep him safe from the empire and I think Luke hid Rey (a Kenobi) on a desert planet to keep her from the FO.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s not that hard to believe because we’re only in the second film of a trilogy and from a narrative point of view, the hero, or heroine in this case, has to stumble and fail. That makes the pay off in the third film all the more impactful.

The stumble and fail part I absolutely get but I'm not sure a turn to the DS counts as a stumble does it? Pretty big one given star wars is, at heart, a battle between good and evil.
Unless Rey is the heroin of Ep7; baddie in Ep8 and then back to heroin in Ep9?
Don't know, doesn't feel likely to me. Snoke would have to be strongly developed in this film if that were to be the case imo because with Rey and Ren flirting with LS/DS then Snoke would have to be the focal evil character. Possible (obviously) but I had seen him as the Emperor role, shadowy puppet master rather than the focal point (the Vader character if you like).
I guess the Knights of Ren could become more of a 'thing' and Rey join them and then leave. Rather than the traditional master - apprentice thing.
I don't know all just guess work really.
Just shows how good the trailer was because it showed so much whilst told very little.
I believe It has already been said that Reys lineage will be addressed in this movie and how she ended up on Jakku or whether she was always there and was abandoned. It’ll actually give TFA much more depth.
I was listening to a podcast the other day and one of the guys on there who I believe was a filmmaker said that TFA should be applauded for giving us such strong new characters and I couldn’t agree more.
The task of bringing back Star Wars whilst simultaneously trying to embed brand new characters into a timeline with so many beloved characters from the past was a colossal task but they certainly did it.
Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, Poe, BB8 etc are already instantly recognisable and considering their respective pasts are all still a mystery makes that an even more impressive feat.

How powerful is luke?
I'd say more powerful than he was in return but not as powerful as you would expect. I think during those 30 years, he has endured a tumultuous development with his state now being one of depression and confusion hence not allowing his abilities to manifest to its full extent.
Snoke?
He's a force user which is now confirmed but whether he is sith or how powerful he is,remains shrouded.I think we will get some back story pertaining to snoke but they will not delve into it. They never explored Sidious's history in the originals yet he was a terrifying character.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ren probably only went rogue 10 years ago (?) so that’s 20 odd year to hone the craft.
Which makes me think that some of the Jedi Luke trained must have become adults wonder what happened to them.

I hope they scrap this whole rule of 2 business with the sith and go a different direction. Can mentioned the knights of Ren, which is an avenue I find fascinating.
Has anyone considered the possibility that Rey and Ren join Snoke and Luke has to come out of his cave and remind them who the sheriff of the town really is?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If that happens then I’ll probably let out a bit of love wee in the cinema
I think people ruling out a partnership between Kylo Ren and Rey are jumping the gun a bit. They have a lot in common. Both confused, both don't really know their place and desperate to find their belonging.
If Kylo feels he's lost Snoke's backing and Luke refuses to fully train Rey, they both need somewhere to turn... why not each other?
IMO ignoring minor plot points, the overriding plot is going to be Luke refusing to train Rey, Rey being seduced and played mind tricks on by Snoke, Kylo Ren emphasising with Rey and trying to stop her turn to the dark which ultimately turns him back to the light
And yes they are going to fall in love

I assume he will have his Obi Wan moment. He will become more powerful in death!
Maybe not in this film though.

Is it the first episode on the series tonight?
yeah, and just because they love Guvnor so much they are broadcasting the episodes in clusters!
So a double header each week.
I actually think the first 2 have already aired. Disney are doing 3 or 4 showing per day, so at least one of those showings has already happened. Bound to be able to stream it at this point.
