I'm not going to put any spoilers, but I absolutely hated that. For me that was not Star Wars at all to me.

If nothing else, that has massively tempered my expectations!

I've read a couple of negative reviews now (plenty of excellent ones as well obviously) but the aggregate review scores only seem to be mildly better than TFA.

I'd say I now have high hopes rather than high expectations. Going on Sunday though so not long to wait.

I am literally so deflated.

For general sci-fi film lovers and casual Star Wars fans I think that they will enjoy the film. For hardcore fans and Star Wars fanatics I think a lot will be left feeling like me and there will be a backlash. Some of the things that happened were ridiculous

Don't get your hopes up too much would be my advise!

Don't think being a hardcore fan is necessarily the reason why, I wouldn't call myself one and I'm disappointed.

I can understand people saying they enjoyed it but I don't see how anyone is coming out of that movie thinking it was 8+/10

That's close to one of the reviews I read. They said that people wanting a visually impressive action film will probably really enjoy it. Star Wars fans will pick it apart in terms of continuity, plot and appropriateness (relative to the rest of the canon I assume).

For a SW fan I'm far more accepting of inconsistencies than some. For example I know Rey's ability to immediately fly the falcon and perform mind tricks bothered some people but I didn't mind and just accepted it and enjoyed the film for what it was.

Just have to wait and see I guess.

As with every SW film the expectations are always too high.

The new ones since the originals get torn to shreds when the originals are just as inconsistent as the rest. It’s just they came out in a era that hadn’t seen anything or much like it before so blow their minds and the hype stuck with them.

Depends on the reasons I guess. I know the TFA was disliked primarily because of Rey's untrained strength and it's plot being too similar to ANH. Would be slightly unfair if the new one is criticised for being too 'un-SW' when the first was criticised for being a tribute film!

Despite being a huge SW fan, I know these films aren't being made for me. The first 3 were for me and they formed a huge part of my childhood. These films are being made for a new generation. And they'll probably whinge and some new SW films when they're in their 40's...

Looking forward to watching it next August.

We are attempting a self imposed embargo on Ja606...
think it was said like sometime next week we will talk about it.
Think the spoiler thread is a good idea, as nobody can complain once they click into it ...
The thing is i am desperate to see it again!!
and once i do that, i feel i can give a more accurate rating..

I am seeing it again on Monday

Will obviously go in with lower expectations and try and salvage some good points from the film

As of right now I'm still completely deflated and feel like the franchise has been been ruined

You need to head over to Reddit. Most are about to kill themseleves over it
