Kante: "It will be great to play in the Champions League. I will decide my future after the Euros." #PSG #LCFC #CFC #AFC (Standard)

Don't count your chickens just yet lads..

To be fair Kante was expected - Vardy wasn't which is what makes it such a shock.

Vardy going is hardly going to help Kante with his decision I guess.

It happened to Southampton, it's happening to us. They rebuilt and so can we but the fact that no one else can break into this cartel in the long term is one of the most disappointing things about football for me

It almost makes me want a breakaway league so these top clubs can just fack off

Euros will not help, as potential targets will want concentrate on that for the time being. Going go be a long summer.

Yeah ok fair point.....

It's just a big club monopoly and your only hope of breaking it is to be bought by a multi billionaire who wants success immediately

Try to build over a period of time and your best players get picked off time and again. Look at Southampton.i just find it depressing but this is what all the other clubs who aren't part of the big 4/5 experience.

Had this discussion with a Leeds fan a while back.

Unless you can find a way to make fleetwood town and Southampton have some kind of level playing field then there will always be bigger clubs and smaller ones.

Get rid of the 5 biggest clubs and the next 5 biggest just take their place.

Also I don't see how some sort of breakaway league would change PSG going for Kante and Araneal going for Vardy?

posted on 5/6/16

It wouldn't Jose you're right

You would have to level the playing field financially, preferably through wage caps, and make it about how well you recruit, rather than going out and buying the league.

Too late for that to happen now

Looking increasingly like this squad is going to be dismantled just as quickly as Martin O'Neill's was. How thoroughly depressing.

On the other hand, how ironic will it be if the only one of the holy trinity to stay at Leicester is Mahrez....

posted on 5/6/16

To be fair the dismantling of MONS squad was largely our own doing

I think Mahrez will actually stay, no release clause that we know about and personal circumstances mean that a move to another club wouldn't be ideal for him.

If we can replace Vardy and Kante and keep him then it's still looking like a good season.

The only way to beat Leicester ultimately seems to rob them of their players. That's premier league football for you

posted on 5/6/16

It really is depressing seeing our squad potentially being dismantled but lets see who comes in as replacements, we still have plenty of money from last season and transfers coming in. with Champions League football we can still be an attractive club to play for.

Funny thing is the big boys couldn't beat us last season so cherry picking our best players is what they have to resort to. And people on here moan about Bayern poaching Dortmunds players.

Isn't that how Leicester got into the premier league? By 'robbing' players from other teams?

Le Havre didn't want Mahrez. They didn't value him and the general consensus was that he wasn't big enough to make it at top level. That's why they let him go so cheaply and were happy to.

Simpson, James and Drinkwater weren't wanted by their respective clubs. I've lost count of the amount of ex Manchester United academy players we have picked up over the years because they weren't deemed good enough.

Schmeichel wasn't wanted at Leeds anymore. He didn't want to leave them, we came in for him because we were alerted to his availability by Leeds United apparently

Cambiasso was released from his contract when we got him, same with Fuchs

Yes there have been occasions where we have picked up the likes of Kante and Vardy from other clubs but they weren't powerless to sell them to us and they demanded a lot of money including sell on clauses.

In the main I would say that no we haven't got to the premier league by robbing other players. Our scouting system is a bit more advanced than Arsenals for example who simply seem to wait for other clubs to develop the players they want and then buy them....

Well we've got something the big 5 can't take off us,
The Premier League Title, now that feels good !
Kante , yes, most expected him to go back, to maybe France. The Vardy one, was initially a shock, but from his point of view it makes good sense financially, don't forget, he'll not have been on the "big" money long, and he's almost 30, so needs to set himself up, in that respect.
However,I think he might well have peaked this season, so a younger replacement may turn out to be a good move for both parties. We can get by without him.If you remember when he got sent off against West Ham, after all our one nils, we went and banged in 4 goals next game.
I'm more than happy that in our lifetime, "little" Leicester have won the top title. If we could just top it off with an F.A. Cup Final victory, in the near future, then I for one, ( as regards "footy", would leave this world, (when the time comes), a very happy "Fox".

And it looks like history could repeat itself. That's how it works. That helped you win the league and it'll help another team possibly reach their goals

Think the Leicester fans need to ask themselves who put these release clauses in their best players contracts.

I'm not saying we haven't done it but not to the extent that the top clubs do and we don't form part of a cartel of successful clubs that can't be broken because of it

We didn't prize the majority of this team away from other clubs as I've just outlined in the examples provided. By enlarge we purchased cast outs and unwanted players and developed them. The top clubs rarely do that - they just pick off the best talent when it comes to the fore.

No one can ever break in to this elite group and we won't see another Leicester city story for 20 years more. Is that really what football fans want??

The players and their agents insist on it as i understand it. It's pretty common at this level

But the two players that you have poached are going to be poached. How is that unfair? If anything it is very fair.

I called this at the time when Leicester won the title. Told my mate to enjoy it because it was gonna be a depressing summer for their club.

Such is the way of the world and the way of football. I'd be shocked if Mahrez didn't also make a move (though I must admit I couldn't see Vardy leaving)
