------------------------ De Gea -----------------------
Henrichs ---- Sanchez ---- Manolas ---- Kurzawa
---------------- Khedira ---- Busquets --------------
Callejon --------------- Alli ---------------- Neymar
----------------------- G.Jesus ------------------------

Johnstone, Danilo, Samper, Mbappe, Pogba, Pousen, Aguero

A few changes to keep it fresh for the weekend and to give others a run out to prove they are worthy of a first team slot

In goal is De Gea as good a goalkeeper you will get in the league, a good shot stopper and a keeper that instills confidence in the back four, shouting instructions to his defenders. Out very quickly to shut down strikers and close there shooting angles down. Punches clear what he cant catch from high balls and likes to release early to set up quick counters.

Sanchezi in beside Manolas, on this occassion Manolas will man mark the CF. Manolas is a very cultured defender who is quick and skillfull for a CB, with great marking abilities, powerfully built so marking the CF should be no trouble wether he is quick or big and powerful as he has to man up to him, will keep him away from goal and be on to him quickly as he comes forward so he can intercept any though he has of going for goal. When in possession he will carry the ball out and start attacks from the back. Sanchez alongside is good in the air, so will mark any other players that come into our danger area, strong in the air and strong in the tackle and make sure he is strong enough to get the ball away from danger. A clever player who can intercept attacks very quickly before they begin and he does this with great effect and simply takes the ball away from attackers. He too can carry the ball out from defence but we must be careful and only do this when it is possible. His passing I want him to play the simple ball to those around him and just in front. Both go up for corners and are a huge threat.

Henrichs and Kurzawa at fullback, we must keep the wingers quiet and away from our danger area, They will look to keep them away from shooting areas where they will become dangerous. This is a vital clash in this game if we can keep to our plan we will keep them out of the game. They will be up against quality wingers so look to force him away from goal and backwards.Their marking abilities are sound, both have good positional sense and very quick, do not make rash decisions and will stay on their feet. I want them to attack when in no danger (one at a time, dont be left exposed)so time these runs perfectly. One sits back a bit and allowing the other to attack, this is keeping a 3 at the back at all times. . When one goes the other stays as they look to make an extra man down the flank for our wingers to cut inside or play neat one twos to free the wingers up as there fullbacks get dragged out of position. Always looking to force there fullback into a challenge in which we will hopefully ride and get into their danger area.

We stay as a tight knit unit at the back, when defending stay in a line and make this as hard as possible for Portsmouth to break through.

We have a very industrious pairing in the middle, Busquets to stop the AM getting the ball from midfield to the striker, he must be right on top of him looking to close him down at the quickest opportunity, let him dictate play and there striker will get plenty chances, we must not let this happen. So quick and into him, fairly and stop this! Busquets himself will look to dictate from deep as he picks up from the defence and looks to drive us forward with precision passing. He is a very calming influence on the team and does everything very simply allowing others to do the running for him. Khedira will go v the second most advanced midfielder or anyone else that is around that area. Even tho Busquets has the man marking role Khedira will look to cover much of the pitchwith his energy and exuberance, hassling and harassing anyone who has the ball, he doesn't give any one time on the ball as he moves side to side and forwards and back, this style pressurizes the opposition to pass erractically. Our deep lying pair will look to pass and move always look for the return pass. When we have the ball Khedira in particular will get us moving forward from the centre once he has picked the ball up from deep or from Busquets, his close control and ability to carry the ball into the attacking third once he has the ball is exceptional as he pushes up to bring our forwards into the game. When they have then close down the CM, he will look to ping the ball about so get to him before that opportunity arises. We have put Alli in a No.10 role this is where we feel he will be at his best against there DM he must be strong, he is an all round fantastic attacker, however he will look to take the DM on one v one drag him about open up spaces for others to drive into, with the ball at feet look to play quick one twos with those around him so he makes the runs into the box looking for that return ball that will get him in on goal. If the ball is played to him with his back to goal hold it up, draw the foul from the DM, if it doesnt come then look to lay it off, look to play the slide pass into Jesus, he must support Jesus as best he can and the two must link up very well, very quickly, Alli himself is fantastic in front of goal, I think his record speaks for itself.

Neymar and Callejon are known for their creativity, speed, and technical ability and are fearless, explosive attacking midfielders who can change the game with a turn of pace or a dribble. More importantly both scorers of wonderful and important goals. Both technically excellent in limited areas, fast explosive acceleration during the first ten yards. Which more often than not takes them passed defenders and allows them to get into dangerous areas. Always play with there heads up looking for the runs of others to get the ball into there feet especially Alli and Aguero. Callejon will look to drive down the line and keep it to the outside making them come to him, which will leave holes in the centre of the pitch hopefully he will get the ball into. Neymar will get a free run at them, you really cant coach a very special talent as long as he is focussed and does what he does best. However, he must be a team player and bring others into the game when he can. When they have the ball look to stick close to fullbacks/wingbacks and stop them coming forward, Just track them and use pace to get back and in around there faces to stop them becoming a threat. Always be looking for Alli inside as the four make an awesome quartet in behind Jesus and a scary proposition for there slowish back line. If they play 3 at the back look to support Jesus and drag the wide CBs out wide

Jesuswill get plenty chances, however he must put away there side who will be solid at the back, however I want to target the slower of the two/three with the aid of Alli. Get into positions that he can go for goal or at very least drag players away for other players to drive into the space. Again, target the slower of the cbs, split them apart to create space, we are quick, so our forwards must hit them with pace to drag them all over the place. He can score from various angles/ranges..All of our front four will be a threat today we must go for it and keep pace with Portsmouth. Can hold it up and look for runners, in particular Neymar and Callejon and Alli will be making his runs also so be watchful of him just to lay it off to the side. But especially look for Allias he times his runs perfectly so a little touch back to him allows him to go for goal.

Captain - Busquets
Penalties - Neymar
Free kicks - Neymar
Corners - Wingers

Subs -
Losing -
70 Mins - Poulsen and Aguero for ALli and Jesus, go 442 and look for Poulsen to win the knock downs to Aguero
80 Mins - Mbappe for Kurzawa, Henrichs to CB and Mbappe up top 343

Winning -
70 Mins - Samper and Aguero for Alli and Jesus, Samper in beside the midfield
80 Mins - Danilo for Khedira

Drawing -
70 Mins - Mbappe for Callejon, Aguero for Jesus
80 Mins - Samper for Khedira

Patient Controlled 4-5-1

Away to the Spanish giants and with one eye on the weekend's fixture against Villa, we give a chance to a few of our younger players in attack. Oyarzabal and Guedes have been lighting up Spain, been two of the best players in the country behind Messi and seem the perfect for this game in Spain.

Correa up top gets the nod for his pace, his ability to break and run with and without the ball at speed will be important to our gameplan.

We go with a centre back partnership that is blossoming. They have shown they are capable of putting their foot on the ball and controlling possession in a match from the back. We look to use this, playing a patient passing game at the back. The more we have of the ball, the more likely we are to create, and the less likely they are to do anything. Blind gets the nod at left back for his strong defensive play.

In midfield, Koke and Alena will be key to controlling possession and keeping us on top of the game. Koke and Ndidi give us two strong defensive players, while Alena will be looking to impress on his return to Spain, we look to use this drive to our advantage. Ndidi will always sit, keeping his place after a MOTM performance at the weekend.

In attack, we have two wide players who will look to drift central without the ball, and cut inside when they do get it wide. We want them supporting Correa and linking up as a trio with Alena and Koke in attack as much as possible.

----------------- M.Neuer
Valencia - Stones – Otamendi - D.Blind
--------- Koke -- Ndidi -- C.Alena -------
- M.Oyarzabal ----------------- Guedes -
----------------- A.Correa

Subs. Schmeichel, Sessegnon, Danilo.P, Asensio, D.Costa, Gnabry, Solanke

Patient keep ball at the back, tire their forwards out looking to stay in a shape and defend rather than attacking us. The midfield trio also look to stay patient, until they find themselves in space, then we look to attack as quickly as possible. The attacking trio are as direct as possible.

Defensive Shape

We look to control the opposition by pressing the space with a narrow rigid defensive unit, only allowing them to play in areas we want them to. When we lose the ball the closest player presses the ball, the second closest presses the obvious passing channel. Looking to stop any attacks before they begin.

In a deep, narrow, rigid formation, we will look to press the space, not allowing them options. Draw them in to positions where they can’t hurt us, and then try and win the ball back. Then get forward quickly.

We always keep one fb back. We have a quick defence and energy and pace in midfield to stop quick breaks.

As Spain advance into higher areas of the park and into our half, our shape will resemble a 4-1-4-1. Our wingers will track any forward runs made by their fbs, and Ndidi presses the space in front of our cbs, look to stop their AM having any space and taking him out the game.

In this tight formation narrowing to the side of play, ensuring there are no gaps in the formation. Ndidi will be key, reading the play in between the defence and midfield, getting across to cut out any danger. Koke picks up the most advanced cm. The winger opposite play comes inside and sits on their deepest cm while Alena presses the space next to and in front of Ndidi.

In this formation pushing them backwards and wide away from danger. Force them to take risks.

Attack.

Patient at the back. Quick when we get our midfielders in a bit of space. Ndidi always sits in front of defence.
One fb goes forward at a time.
The cm trio seeking to collect the ball from the defence, and seeking to start our attacks from the back. Spreading play, and setting the tempo of the game.

Koke and Alena controlling the game in possession for us. Looking to find space between their defence and midfield, committing defenders from there and playing killer balls to our attacking trio.

We want quick one twos in the opposition half. Alena, Koke and the wingers will always be looking for the killer ball. If it is not on, we are happy to keep the ball moving and keep possession.
Wingers play their natural game. Correa plays his natural game, look to use his pace, stay on the last man, look to get in behind.

Subs.
If losing after 60 mins bring on Danilo for Alena and Asensio and Oyarzabal. More cover and more freedom in attack.
If losing after 80 mins bring on Solanke for Ndidi.Up top with Correa.

If drawing or winning afte 65 mins bring on Douglas Costa for Oyarzabal.
If drawing or winning after 70 mins bring on Danilo for Ndidi.
If drawing or winning after 70 mins bring on Asensio for Correa.

Updated Bayern/Leipzig/Dortmund tactics for all group stage games

Gulasci
Kimmich - Orban - Toprak - Alaba
Weigl - Rudy - Kroos
Pulisic - Muller - Augustin

Subs: Weidenfeller, Piszczek, Comper, Ilsanker, Demme, Larsen

Playing 4-3-3 today to make the most of our trio of world class CM's, aiming to get into the opposition with our pacy wingers and the lethal finishing from Muller.

Gulasci in goal, command your area and look to distribute with short passes, primarily into the midfield or to one of our fullbacks.

Orban and Toprak will be solid if unspectacular, the aim being to keep the opposition attack at bay, but you will be supported by Weigl, Rudy and Kroos if under siege.

Kimmich and Alaba will provide an overlap to Pulisic and Augustin on occasion but will also slot into midfield when we have the ball to create space and options for our midfielders.

Weigl, Rudy and Kroos will run the show from midfield, assist the defence when under pressure, use your passing ability to link with Kimmich/Alaba, and with the front three. Don't be afraid to bring the ball forward.

Pulisic and Augustin will run at the opposition fullbacks and look to create chances for themselves and for Muller. Muller will be playing on the shoulder of the last defender looking for any opportunity that comes his way. Marking the defender should ensure you have a great chance of getting to through balls first while staying onside.

Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Augustin off, Comper on. An extra CB to give us solidity, 5-3-2 to absorb pressure.

If losing: Rudy off, Larsen on. A more attacking approach with only Weigl and Kroos in midfield, Muller in a #10 role and Augustin playing up top with Pulisic and Larsen providing assistance in a wide forward role. Kimmich and Alaba move into wingback roles. Push for goals.

Updated Juventus/Roma/Napoli tactics for all group stage games

Reina
Vrsaljko - Benatia - Albiol - Emerson
De Rossi - Sturaro
Hulk - Oscar - Insigne
Dzeko

Subs: Zappacosta, Moreno, Pereyra, Giaccherini, Nkoudou, Defrel

Playing 4-2-3-1 to get the best out of our attacking players, while remaining solid defensively.

Reina in goal will command his area, look to distribute long and early to Dzeko, Hulk or Insigne to instigate counter attacks.

Benatia and Albiol in defence, keep the opposition at bay but no need to overcomplicate things when in possession, De Rossi and Sturaro will assist in defence and attack to take the pressure off of the two CB's.

Vrsaljko and Emerson providing the solid support at fullback, on occasion get forward to overlap Hulk and Insigne so they can cut infield or so you can get crosses in for Dzeko, but be primarily defensive, look to stop the opposition wingers by forcing them wide.

De Rossi and Sturaro will assist the defence but also when in possession link the play with Oscar, look for Hulk and Insigne making runs inside the fullback and Dzeko on the last defender's shoulder.

Oscar is the link man at AM, drop deep on occasion to collect the ball from De Rossi/Sturaro but also get up to support Dzeko and be able to provide chances for Hulk, Insigne and Dzeko.

Hulk and Insigne will be cutting infield as inverted wingers, shoot where you can but also look for Dzeko in the area, provide crosses on occasion and utilise our fullback overlapping you. Dzeko will mark the deepest defender to ensure he stays onside but also has a chance to get onto through balls first. Shoot on sight.

Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Hulk and Oscar off, Zappacosta and Moreno on, like a 4-4-2 but with Zappacosta and Moreno essentially like wingbacks in front of the fullbacks to provide us with extra cover out wide and 8 outfield players behind the ball. Insigne and Dzeko remain up top.

If losing: Albiol off, Nkoudou on. Move to a 3-2-3-2 with Nkoudou to LW and Insigne joining Dzeko upfront. Push for goals.

Updated Real Madrid/Barcelona tactics for all group stage games

Cillesen
Semedo - Pique - T Silva - Alba
Isco - Mascherano - Iniesta
L Vazquez - Messi - Bale

Subs: Casilla, S Roberto, T Hernandez, Rafinha A, M Llorente, Paulinho, Alcacer

Playing a 4-3-3 today, with key players in their best positions to maximise our chances today.

Cillesen in goal, command your area and look to distribute with short passes, utilise the back four and midfield dropping deep to get on the ball.

Pique and Thiago Silva in central defence with Mascherano ahead of them, you three will be primarily keeping the opposition attack at bay, and to collect the ball off Cillesen to begin attacks.

Semedo and Alba providing the width as attacking fullbacks, drop deep on occasion to collect the ball but make attacking bursts to overlap Vasquez and Bale where you can.

Isco and Iniesta assisting Mascherano in midfield but also being the link between defence and attack, look to link up with Messi regularly and look for Vasquez and Bale making runs beyond the opposition defence.

Vasquez and Bale bringing the pace and width to stretch our opposition creating space and chances for Messi in his favoured false 9 role, look to make runs inside their fullback, be ready for passes from Isco/Iniesta/Messi. When Messi drops deep or wide, at least one of you two push on into the centre forward role in his place.

Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Vasquez off, M Llorente on. 4-4-2, with the 4 midfielders narrow and Llorente providing extra DM support to Mascherano. Messi and Bale remain up top.

If losing: Mascherano off, Alcacer on. Alcacer an extra striker as we chase the game, allows Messi to be a little deeper. Push for goals.
