271/8 on a flat track like this...will they avoid the follow on? If not should Smith enforce it?

posted on 5/1/17

Yet again another collapse it's just criminal at this level.

Scheduled to start 30min early to make up lost time, but showers are forecast, so we will to wait and see how the day progresses.

Unlikely Smith would enforce the follow on, if Aus can clean up the tail quickly this morning expect two sessions of batting and a lead of around 450 to bowl at.

Pak will be a long way behind with four sessions to bat

Flat track bully

Should bat 35 overs, looking for a 350-400 lead. Depends if Pak can get Warner out.

This game will go until late tomorrow. If it is not washed out we could still be heading for an interesting finish

The forecast is sunny tomorrow. I don't think Mother Nature will have her Green shirt on tomorrow

Only manage 315 on what Kash describes as the one the most flattest pitches

Typical arm chair fan response. The wicket was very flat first two days but the Aussies got a big total and were able to apply scoreboard pressure. Day 3 and 4 we have seen rain and overcast conditions which assisted the Aussie bowling.

How convenient!

And when they made 240 odd for 2, the pitch and conditions got better .

Overcast There was a bit of rain, it was bright and sunny straight after

I've never seen so much nonsense from Kash recently..thought he was at least a half decent poster. Yet lately, his expert opinions about pitches on every single hour of test matches through time prove otherwise. Gotta love it

So the way this match has panned out is as follows:

1. Ultra-flat for the first 135 odd overs
2. Rains and it becomes overcast. A seamer's paradise. Hence the mighty Younis, against all odds, scores a century
3. For the next 32 overs, the sun's out, flattens the wicket. Basically a road
4. Overcast again. I pity any team batting at this time of the match

A good win for the new look Aus team after a poor start to the summer. Nice to see a series played in good spirit, Pak were competitive but let down by field placement and bowling. Well played Pakistan

Good batting by Azhar Ali, 400 at 81, but lacked support when runs and long partnerships were needed. Well done again, Smithy, worlds number one batsman, with 441 runs at 110 for the series.

Maybe Test cricket would benefit from games being played on neutral venues, since most teams these days seem to win comfortably at home, but have trouble travelling. At least this turns the 2-0 UAE result around.

Aus-Pak is one of the few rivalries which dont have a named trophy to play for. One suggestion bandied about here is the Lillee-Miandad Trophy after an infamous memory of our shared history. Any other suggestions?

Not sure why Misbah didn't announce his retirement. His time is up. He's too old and the team needs to move on.
