I don't think he was solid enough, though. He was awful last season. And the two seasons prior.
Interesting question actually as there's a real lack of quality right backs in the prem.
I'm not the biggest fan of Walker and Bellerin but when these are two of the top right backs in the league it shows the dearth of quality.
I'd agree with you on Valencia being one of the best performing right backs this season. For one reason or another the likes of Clyne, Bellerin, Walker, Azpi, Sagna, or Coleman would be more valuable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Walker is the only one who has arguably shown better form this season, and I wouldn't swap Valencia for him.
The only one I'd go for is Bellerin. Azpi isn't nearly as consistent, and the likes of Sagna and Coleman aren't in the same league for me.
Here's Jose on Tony:
"I tried to sign Antonio a number of years ago, when I was at Madrid.
"Even though he was not playing right-back at the time, I thought he could be phenomenal in that position. As it was, United told me ‘no chance!’
"I am not surprised by his form this season."
I'm not saying he's a world beater. But right now he's a very valuable asset, deserves recognition for his performances and how he's successfully worked on the defensive part of his game, and leaves us with only a headache at left back, where our attention should be.
"He was awful last season."
At very best, that's just hyperbole Darren. He was far from awful. Rooney was awful, Fellaini was awful, Rojo was awful, Memphis was awful.
At very worst, Valencia was average.
I think Azpi is the most consistent full back in the prem. he's just terrible going forward.
I don't think it's hyperbole. Was saying it at the tome and stand by out. Week after week he was poor.
This season that's not been the case, however, so credit where it's due.
Good.
So in summary, if I may, we all agree that he's the best right back in the world and the second coming of Cafu.
Glad we've got that sorted

Whatever gave you that idea?
You can't tell from Dazza's matter of fact posting style?
Nah, neither could I.
I'm only matter of fact when it comes to Valencia and Fellaini being shiiiiit.
Daz, that weren't a criticism by the way.
Being matter of fact, (maybe I used the wrong phrase there) but having conviction in your opinion isn't a bad thing IMO., Far from it man.
