I get the impression that Poch is solely going after the League, it is his ultimate goal to put on his CV, and Cups are a minor interference

A load of Cabinet space for rent is coming to market summer 2018, prices have crashed in n17.

Pochettino doesn't have any cups on his cv either.

It is the typical fans vs the rest of the stakeholders thing, not that the other stakeholders don't want silverware but of course they have to think more about money.

Tottenham have obviously done well but to bridge that gap in terms of squad investment is quite large as you need special players who make the difference, even if in the table table it is a few points.

It is a stick or twist situation, you could invest heavily budgeting on regular CL football and fall short then end up in a worse position than you are now.

Personally I think you should go for it, doesn't mean you have to go crazy in the market, but one or two top players could put you on another level.

I also think there is something to be said for recruiting a wise older head akin to when a young Liverpool team had Gary McCallister added.

Well, if Spurs do go on and win something, then there will be far more kudos and notability attached to it than any of our rivals, giving that Spurs spend far less each season.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not suggesting Spurs are a small club, they're clearly not. But Billy's mentality is the reason that Spurs do get labled as such, on occasion.

Such a lame thing to say. At the quarter final stage of the EL last season, Spurs basically lost the game against Dortmund before kick off. We then showed that Dortmund were more than beatable in the semi's. It was a great chance for Spurs to maybe reach a final, but the team selection gave you no chance.

Until Poch changes his attitude towards cup games, you'll win nothing.

Levy could also help by adding some genuine quality if possible to give ourselves the best chance of it, if we are to fall short in any of the competitions we're going for.

--------

the customary dig at levy from spurtle, despite the absolutely drastic improvement in spurs on and off the pitch since he took over

Unless you think that our squad doesn't need any strengthening at all, then what's your problem with that Chronic?

This never goes down well but I couldn't care less about silverware unless it's the League Championship. It's a massive shame that I feel that way and a poor reflection on the way the game has gone but the dwindling interest, attendances and first teamers in the Cups serve, realistically, to make them second rate.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that's an acceptable opinion... the FA Cup especially should be sacrosanct. It just doesn't feel that way any more.

Round by round we hear about teams putting out weakened teams and "disrespecting the cups" - but what do they expect when the fans don't even fill the grounds... even though it's kids for a quid.

Even the BBC don't go all out for it these days...

The whole thing could be fixed in an instant. Take the 4th Champions League spot and give it to the FA cup winner. The moment that happens then the fa cup becomes a huge competition again in the blink of an eye.

And the fa cup final becomes the biggest day of the season - which it should be.

A Champions League place for the FA Cup winners would be insane.

Would be great. Getting sick of Sky and it's "race for top 4"

There are six PL teams currently whose fans would probably expect some sort of silverware. There are only three domestic trophies.

We have a good first XI currently, plus about 5 or 6 on top of that. Until the entire squad are proper contributors, then it will be the case the league gets priority and cups are used to rotate.

If we were only going for the top 4, I would still prioritise the league. Not with my heart - as I would prefer a trophy to top 4 - but my head, as I believe our players are far more likely to stay if we get CL football. If our players stay we are more likely to compete.

As it is, we are in with a shout for the league again. The last time I checked that was a trophy

Not trying to WUM ourselves, but remember pre FA Cup win the amount of abuse we gave Arsenal fans for going X years without a trophy?

We have surpassed that now, it really is embarrassing.

well arsenal are a bigger club than we are... and pay their manager and players a lot more for no trophies....

You're walking that tight rope between victims of your own success and not having the attitude of winners. You've obviously done very well and given the money of your competition the club have every right to be praised but it will be with that caveat 'given the money'. If that attitude comes from within the club it can be limiting. It is the reality but that doesn't help your cause and last season proved spending big isn't the only way to win.

When i feel enough is enough is the time we go out and spent 50 million on that world class player that will put us up to the next level. When we move into this stadfium we will have the funds to do this.

No you won't. Stadium revenue is important, but moreso is commercial revenue.

Until you grow commercial revenue, you will never be able to compete with the big boys financially

Good article - it's the right time for the supporters to be thinking like this. I have been a Spurs supporter for over 45 years and this is the best team I've seen in that time.

For the first time ever, I even put money on Spurs to win a trophy this year after the West Brom game.

Butt those back-to-back FA cup wins hardly elevated Wenger back to godlike status did they? Maybe bought him a bit more time but that's it. If anything it brought sharply into focus for Arsenal fans that only the league title will do.

Louis van gaal's fa cup win with united made no difference whatsoever. Sad as it is, I most top-six teams' fans would take top four over a trophy every time.

It seems that some of your fellow fans don't want to accept how good this Spurs side are. Spurtle for example refuses to accept that Spurs can be talked about as realistic title winners this season.

Chelsea have it in the bag according to him and anything other than a Chelsea title win would supposedly be some kind of disaster.

Personally I think that's a small club mentality. In a world where fecking Leicester City are Premier League Champions why should Spurs fans not think that they can win the title ?

Even your club's motto is about daring to dream although you wouldn't know that from some of your fans who don't seem to want to put any expectancy at all on your side.

We've been here before though in recent seasons, so I can understand the note of caution with some supporters. Not tempting fate etc. And I was also like this in past seasons because you always knew that the team were capable of self-imploding.

However, I feel there is no soft underbelly in this current team/squad. I have confidence this year and that's why my money is on for a trophy this year.

As a rival fan looking at your side I feel the same. There are no real weaknesses in this side and you have a very good manager in Poch. Also your players will have learned a lot after last season when at one point it looked you could win the title.

As I kept saying to Spurtle there are still a whopping 51 points still to play for this season so a mere 7 point gap can easily be overturned over the remaining half of the season still left to play.

Not wanting to give you lot ideas but I'm getting tired of some of your fans claiming that Chelsea have it in the bag already and that Spurs catching us up would be some kind of big shock. It really wouldn't and your fans thinking that way doesn't really help your chances.

You've beaten us already and more than matched us at WHL. It could be argued that man for man you have a better 11 than us or at the very least are just as good. Also you've now won 6 on the bounce making you the form side in the PL.
