Meh. It's all good. Really bummed about this attack though. For whatever reason, my family gets all anxious to go places where there had been attacks. We used to go to London annually until the 7/7 bombing. I think we went like once more after that and haven't been since then. I was thinking about backpacking in Europe this year but I know my folks will have something to say about that.

Hope United have some tribute lined up for Wednesday. Win the Europa for city!

Btw think that other thread got derailed after a hook line and sinker from someone. Someone's bound to do it.

Hate jumping to conclusions but with the way Europe's been the last few years, you can't really fault the people for automatically assuming a certain group did it. We are wired to logically add pieces together to make an educated guess.

Last side note before I go to bed: ISIS will claim responsibility when I wake up tomorrow morning. Whether or not they had anything to do with it, they will try to get themselves in the spotlight.

The amount of times we've heard it repeated makes it sound really hollow, but people are absolutely right when they say that changing the way you live your life for fear of terrorism is, in itself, a victory for the terrorists. I'm aware this is a tough moment to talk about this -and I apologise to anyone who might take offence (*not faux outrage)- but the above is the precise reason it's called terrorism. It plays on people's perception of danger rather than the actual danger itself.

Looking at it objectively and rationally though, again with all the due respect every single victim deserves, the actual impact of terrorist attacks in Europe on the overall death rate is probably as negligible as it gets. It's probably lower than the number of deaths caused by rare diseases, almost certainly less than the number of people getting run over in the street - but that wouldn't stop you crossing the road, would it?

I've lived in a city -Madrid- and a time -early 80s- when terrorist attacks were relatively frequent. Moreover, every single day I had to commute to and from school through areas of the city that were regular targets for those attacks. It might have been the folly of youth, but not once did I feel afraid nor did I change my daily routines. Funny enough, the only day in all those years that I did have to miss class for political motives was because of a failed military coup.

I have been fighting politically for decades, and on days such as this, as a dad, I just feel sad and so will not jump in to the fray.
