Likely told you this before, but when I worked in the civil service in Kingsway, London, there was a black only party on one of the floors.My white English colleagues were not allowd in, but as I was from Belfast, I was OK to get in and have a drink etc.😎
I was only in the party for a short time as I felt guilty leaving others outside, but it was a strange scenario.

I was living down Brixton way, so that may have swung it?😁

I've tended to think that the America's hostile attitude towards Iran is mostly down to Iran being seen as a threat to Israel. The policy of the US in the Middle East seems to always have some link with maintaining Israel's position of power within the region.

That's what I used to think too but the more I looked into the history of US military aid in the region, the more IMO it looks like they simply play a balancing game between the various powers to ensure that things never tip over into war. Egypt for instance receives a lot of military aid too and this has been key in ensuring no further Arab-Israeli wars since 73. As well as all the ongoing military relationships with the Gulf Arab states. All of which have historically directly attacked Israel unlike Iran (by proxy might be another matter...).

IMO the threat of Iran to the US has always been that they're the most technologically advanced in the Middle East (after Israel) and the one state that the US can't exercise leverage over, which threatens the delicate balance of the region that has fueled their economy for so long. Which will only get worse if Iran develops nuclear weapons. You can't invade countries that possess nukes...

That's how I see it anyway. Israel is just another pawn in the grand scheme of the middle East, rather than a 51st state.

I wouldn't say they are a pawn, AIPAC have huuuge leverage over U.S. politicians but I agree with your point about America having no leverage over Iran.

Putting aside their undesirable regime, they are totally independent and that's a danger to the U.S.

True that. I'm always blown away by how much lobbyists spend in the US and how it's such an accepted part of their politics. But I guess better out in the open than shadily done in secret visits to 10 Downing Street.

ISIS definitely did, and as I understand it, Iran objects to them both on the same grounds. They are Sunni extremists, who attack Shias.

Iran is actively fighting against ISIS in Syria.

Horrid viewing of daesh death prison on Sky news....thank God Isis are removed from most areas.

Because last night on TV I saw the guy from the Washington Post who broke the story, and he said that he’s not aware of them ever having denied it. He couldn’t swear to it, but he said he’d looked it up, and couldn’t find any denials.

Which wouldn’t surprise me, because what’s to deny?
It’s just opposition research. It’s ugly, and in my opinion it’s anti-democratic, but it’s been common practice for years, and it’s not illegal.
