PVA is a good player though.

PVA is a pretty decent left back and will get you a few goals a season too... in todays market its not a bad deal

I thought he looked good when he was a 'youth prospect' at Chelsea.

I don't think he's a bad player. As for Crystal Palace - I hope they go down

Looking at the market and prices at the moment, I thought it was a bit of a bargain.

It's a horrendous deal, he's not worth a half of that even in an inflated market.

He cannot defend. They key component of being LB.

They paid 1.5m for him, got a few ropey seasons out of him so I have no idea how he is now worth 10x that basically.

People think he's worth way more than he is in reality thanks to seeing him score a few goals on match of the day.

It's 7 league goals in 3 seasons, nothing special. Also he can't defend.

The only bright side is what a beautiful stick this will be at the end of the season to repeatedly bounce off Fat Sam's fat head.

Sam Allardyce has worked with him, so I am pretty sure he knows what he is getting.
Of course the price is inflated, Sunderland are selling to a direct rival in the fight for survival - they wouldn't let him go on the cheap.
But with Palace's first choice left back wrapped around a lamp-post, Allardyce is trying to build a team in the ever difficult January window.

Gets a few goals here and there which masks the fact he is not very good and cannot defend. 14 million in today's market is about the going rate for an average player though.

I didn't mind Palace until Allardyce took over. Horrible, obese, deputy dawg lookalike.

He is the premier leagues leading tackler I saw on SSN a few weeks ago

Replaced by Oviedo by all accounts, who if gets game time is a very good player who will do well for Sunderland.

Exceptional business by Sunderland, profit and a replacement who is easily as good as Pat.

Both teams are going down though

Poor article.

Turns out a decent piece of business CP and not so good for Sunderland. And no, no player in Scotland outside of Celtic can play at EPL level. So they wouldn't find anyone worth 500k who are better. And both would walk into the Celtic team. Just look at Sinclair. Championship level at best, looks a level above the dross in Scotland.
