Carlo at Chelsea too.

Pellegrini wasn't officially sacked and it certainly wasn't shortly after winning the title. He got two full seasons after that so in fairness City were quite patient with him.

Pellegrini ran out of ideas and most City fans were happy to see him go. Much like Ranieri, he was a guy who had a long career of not winning anything and both found it difficult to maintain the one thing they did win.

2 years still isn't that long. And last year he got top 4, won a cup and reached a cl semi final. Pep isn't guaranteed to do any of that.

With City though, European football is their main focus. Reaching the CL semi final was good but they never looked like beating Real and with the money pumped into the club they need to be winning it soon.

Pellegrini much like Ranieri seemed like a nice guy but long term success was never their thing

True but they were still quite patient with him. Doesn't fall into the same category as the Jose or Ranieri sackings

It just goes to show though. Pep may not achieve that this year. They won't win title and won't win cl with that defence. So he will have to win FA cup to better Pellegrini's last year.

I feel sorry for Claudio. Leicester were in a relegation battle the year before last, which is much what they would have expected. Last season they probably expected to be in a relegation battle again, but somehow they managed to win the league. And now they sack their manager because they again find themselves in a relegation battle? Despite the fact that they are still in the CL? Ridiculous. And if the players had truly turned against Claudio then they should be ashamed of themselves, because very few of them will ever reach the heights that they achieved last season, if any.

Moral of the story, don't be one point of relegation with a lot of the season gone.

Want them to go down now

Its harsh to say pell was sacked. He was offered an extension after constant media questions about his contract ending. Then all the stuff with pep saying he is leaving half way through the season. Pellegrini was never staying past his 3 years.

posted on 24/2/17

Why is it harsh? City wanted him to go. They wanted pep. It's same as Chelsea fans who say Jose wasn't sacked first time around. Of course he was.

It's modern football for you.

Days of long term managers are gone, unless you're Arsenal.

It'll be a miracle if any manager in the PL lasts over 10 years at a club again.

posted on 24/2/17

Because he stayed for his contract. He was never staying past that. Whatever happened that season he was going. He could of won the cl and pep was already agreed. How is it anything like Jose 1st time? He left halfway through a season didn't he?

posted on 24/2/17

At the time Chelsea fans said it was mutual rather than a sacking.

posted on 24/2/17

OK I didn't know that. Ye I agree with you on that, I just think pell was a different scenario, harsh to say but I think pell was a stop gap.

I think it's a damning indictment of the modern footballer as well, win the title once then completely down tools the following season, up your game a bit once a new coach is bought in.

It's interesting that City, with all their financial muscle haven't been able to retain the title, Chelsea did it under Jose the first time round but couldn't raise themselves after his last title or with Carlo.

The Leicester players? They probably had the easiest job of any reigning champion, don't get sucked into a relegation battle and put up a decent showing in the CL, never before (in the PL) has their been such little pressure on a championship winning team and they couldn't even rise to that incredibly low bar.

_______________

That's true to a point...but for how long did they have Pep lined up to take over? It could be that they just didn't bother sacking Pellegrini because they only saw him as a stop gap in the first place. I.e. I'm not totally convinced that winning the title actually earned him any patience as such.

Even 5 years will be hard, maybe MoPo?

Pellegrini knew from day 1 that Guardiola was the long term vision of the city hierarchy. As he had accepted the Munich job it was necessary for City to find a calming & stabilizing influence & pellegrini fitted the bill.

The modern footballing world is run by capitalist pigdogs.

Of course it is ruthless, unforgiving, heartless and unromantic.
