Michael 'his Airness' Jordan...

I'd say Pele.

What he went through to actually make it, the injuries he played with having been constantly kicked uncerimonisously and he always did it with a smile and an absolute love of the game on his face.

He's achieved it all and was a magnificent footballer and is probably the icon of the sport. The effect he's had on the game I think is unparalleled with any other sportsman.

Hmm..are these the politically correct choices. A sign of one's sophisticated liberal attitudes.

Cristiano Ronaldo (while extremely talented, I think there's been quite a few with slightly more natural talent but Ronaldo's dedication has taken him a long way)

Bolt

Tiger Woods (surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet)

MVG (will probably never match Taylor's 16 world titles but plays at a higher standard to Taylor in his pomp)

Henry Shefflin (you may not be familiar with him but probably the best hurler (GAA) of all time

Forgot Mayweather also.

Hate him or love him, 49-0 speaks for itself

My favourite athlete of all time is Ali, I think the man was a phenomenon. He was the classiest boxer of all time, his speed was unrivalled. Oh and he would have destroyed Tyson, how that's even a debate I'll never know.

However he wasn't incredibly dominant in his sport in the same way other athletes were, he had Frazier for company.

Most dominant for me is Jordan. That man was a freak. Phelps is a great shout too.

Ali pre the ban was unbeaten and completely dominant.

Jordan was unreal. Just a freak of nature.

Ronaldo as an "athlete" is up there. Run the pitch in about 10 seconds.
