Lingard

Doing things like comparing Lingard to Mkhitaryan is the sort of thing that gives the numpties the ammo they need to slaughter him and make their inept points look almost valid.

Lingard is a squad player. We'd all be better served to remember that, and analyse him in comparison to players of his equivalent standing at other clubs to determine if he's of a required level. Bearing in mind that we aren't even asking him to be better than the best player on the opposition bench, because when we regularly have the likes of Carrick, Martial, Rooney and Mata on our bench he isn't even in the top 4 players on our bench. Is he as good as if not better than the 5th or 6th best player typically sitting on Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Liverpool or Tottenham's bench? You're damn right he is.

Is it really? One would have thought the ability to distinguish between the questions "who's the better player" and "who's made the more key contributions THIS season" would be fairly trivial.

As has been mentioned ad nauseum on this post, their overall stats are pretty much on par, and IMO the most lasting key contributions this season have come from the boot of Lingard.

However, instead of discussing this point, people are arguing with themselves over a stupid question that was never asked

I refuse to believe people on here as so daft/myopic to understand this (or maybe it's just my naivety as I don't spend two thirds of my waking hours on here).

Instead I think it's just deflections and diversion tactics... It's a trumpy trump world we live in these days, so no surprise I guess...

Yes, because it's obvious how it's going to be interpreted by anti-Lingard posters and it's never going to be accepted as a valid point by those people.

I can appreciate the subtlety of the argument, but whenever I defend Lingard I get told I know nothing about football, so I'm possibly not a good advocate.

Someone who gets it

Origi, Ings, Loftus-Cheek, Solanke, Winks, N'Koudou, Iwobi, Welbeck and Garcia are the types of players who are at other top PL clubs fulfilling the same role that Lingard is at United.

Exactly rosso. He's been as good for us, if not better than, any of those have been for their current club.

I didn't compare the two players. But SAF is on record saying he is/will be a top player, and none of them would have played him if they had thought as little of him as some on here.
Other players have been moved on, but not him. Ergo they rate him.

Saf said jones could go onto become Utd best ever player.

Even he said stupid things

Well if even he did, it's just possible you do.

Fergie sometimes said stupid things, but Stretty never once said something intelligent.
