Verratti reminds me more of Kanu.

Verratti is a good player, but if he put in the exact same performances for City, spurs or Liverpool we'd be labelling him as overrated

Verrati can dictate the tempo, drive with the ball, turn on a 6 pence and he's tenacious. He does share attributes with Herrera, but is much better on the ball.

However I've seen little of him this season, as you say he was awful in the return leg at barca (who wasn't? ).

I don't think he is "the answer" though. We still need a quality player to shield the defence imo. Jose doesn't like pressing the ball much either so maybe Veratti would be wasted?

Moves around the pitch far more than Carrick and likes a tackle too.

Can't imagine he's as disciplined or as good at reading the opposition's attacks as Carrick, but his passing looks close, which is some compliment at his young age.

Just hope his height doesn't put Mourinho off

He's actually a very good ball winner.

Doesn't read the game in the defensive phase like Carrick does, but firstly, that is something that comes with age and experience, and secondly, there aren't many players in world football who can read and control a counter attack like Carrick, full stop.

This is a bit on the nose but verratti is as overrated as Pogba. The difference is he has a well defined role and greater discipline tactically than I fear Pogba will ever have.

I don't think Pogba's overrated at all. Everyone slags him off and says he's average.

Feel the same about Verrati as I did about Pogba... talented but way too much hype associated relative to the talent.

I'd take Kante over both of them...

For what seeing as all 3 players play different roles.

Barring Kroos, he's the closest like-for-like replacement for Carrick out there right now.

Then again, a midfield three of Veratti, Pogba and Herrera would leave the defence too exposed IMO. All three are quite similar.

Don't think you can say nothing like Carrick as his probing passing is right up there with one of the best we've seen on our shores: MC

He plays higher up the pitch than Carrick

Carrick is comparable to the likes of Busquets and Motta

Verratti is more like a Xavi

I'm thinking in 10 years Carrick will have been elevated to Beckenbauer levels.
