i can't believe we didn't add a buy back clause considering we sold him really cheap..i remember saying this quite few times if we are selling our young player players and very cheap as well just add a buy back clause no harm

He does look like he could be a really good solid English defender for yrs to come. It is different though going from a team that predominantly sits on the edge of their own area and defends most of the game to a team who pushes up the pitch and defends a lot less.

I like the looks of Harry Maguire at Hull aswell. Very good on the ball too and only 22

He is a very good defender and versatile. Burnley's best player this season. Chelsea were also linked with him last summer and in January.

Clubs don't like buying a player with a bit back clause scenario here.

Markets, markets, MARKETS. How exactly do we have the need for him? We have more than enough players in his market category. Who is he going to appeal to? People from Burnley? And exactly how many shirts are they going to buy? The formula for working out who we sign is

S=2.5(Population)squaredX1.8(GDP)
(S = Sales)

Highest population countries in the world:
China
India
USA
Indonesia

Highest GDP in the world:
China
India
USA
Japan
Indonesia

You do the maths you absolute imbosile. And you think we should be signing someone from Burnley?!

Insult someone calling them an absolute imbosile.

Doesn't spell imbecile correctly.

Back to Keane.

At 24 looks to be a very good CB with plenty of room to improve, only has 12 months left on his deal at Burnley so I think £20m would be a bit high. £12m-£15m would get him think.

Disappointed we sold him without giving him a proper chance, Giggs said that they let him go because they had Smalling, Jones, Rojo, and Blind, really Ryan?...

Let's be fair nobody was disappointed we sold him when we did. He was hardly setting the world alight and had numerous loans where he looked ok but nothing special. He really has come into his own since the sale.

It's almost as though he meant it really.

I WAS disappointed that we sold him without giving him a real run in the side he was highly rated when he was in the youth teams and played well in a cup game away at Chelsea, (Scott Wooten had a nightmare, wasn't disappointed when he left.)

Personally, I think if you have a good youngster in your academy you should always give them a chance instead of taking a punt on an expensive import, in certain positions anyway.

We have Tuanzebe in the academy who is highly rated. We have Fosu Mensah who hasn't had a proper chance under Jose. Can't see us buying Keane back to be honest. Jose will be after a real top class CB in the summer IMO to partner Bailly

Fack me Manc and KLS Barry got both of you

That was one of your better ones btw Barry. Who does he appeal to? People in Burnley??

"Should we look closer to home and bring back one of our boys?"

Worked well last time

Funny you sold him and kept the other two young lads, Blackmore or something, anyway them average lads.

Keane to Everton this summer

Not true. There were quite a few people on here alone disappointed to see him go before he'd been given a chance, myself included.

He was touted (speculatively of course, but with reason) as a potential future United and England captain as a junior. He might well go on to fulfil that (at least the England side of it) in the next few years.

As for us, of the ten outfield positions on the pitch, centreback is the one (perhaps barring the central attacking midfield area) we least need to worry about from a squad development perspective, and I'd be ignoring it completely in the summer.

Central midfield, defensive central midfield, RB, LB, the wide forward areas and up top (if Ibra leaves) are all far more of a concern either in terms of first team quality or squad depth.

He was excellent in the ressies throughout his teenage years but with Utd buying Smalling and Jones he had to leave.

The league is now littered with Utd rejects actually which is testament to the youth system there.

Some good ones too. Lower leagues full of them as well.

Always felt there should be a premium for our products.

Don't recall it at all. Like I said he hardly set the world alight when out on loan and let's be fair if he had any sort of high potential at the time do you not think there would have been more teams than Burnley after him?
He played in the Chelsea game where we conceded 5 and MK Dons game where we conceded 4.
Yes he looks a good defender now and I would be fairl happy to see him back but he would be more of a squad player than starter IMO. Good old fashioned solid defender who actually contributes goals. Reminds me very much like Shawcross who was another one of our products. Strong solid premier league defender but at the very top! I don't think so. He may well prove me wrong and I hope he does

A quick search found a few threads on the United board talking about his future before and after he left.

For a CB, he's still really young. If I remember rightly Rio and Vidic didn't join United until they were 24 and 25 years old respectively.

Three or four more years of development and we'll see what kind of player he's really going to be, but the signs are excellent. He's got just about everything in his locker for me.

I was also disappointed that Keane was allowed to leave. Especially as he could also play at RB.

I haven't seen him since he left United but it sounds as though he's progressing as many thought he would.

Any half promising players like Keane in the reserves should get long term loans like Chelsea do rather than selling them for pittance.

posted on 24/3/17

I suggested buying him back when there was the gossip about Lindelhof, and was met with a deafening silence. So can only assume it's not a popular idea.
He knows the club, has bags of talent and would be half the price.
