To me "bottling" is a lot to do with expectations and not meeting them. Does spending more money not increase expectations? Or are Utd fans happy with spending £300m in 3 years to still be in a scrap for top 4 with an Arsenal team in disarray and Liverpool (finished 8th last year)?

!!!!

You bottle something IN THE MOMENT. Like freezing up and not being able to perform. See Birmingham beating Arsenal in a bloody league cup final. Or Bayern Munich beating Arsenal 5-1 in 3 consecutive games. Or Arsenal every year when it gets to February. The pressure gets too much, and you bottle what you're doing.

Arsenal are FC Bottlejob. No hiding from that

Eh? Not hiding from anything. All I heard at the start of the season was how Utd are one of the favourites for the title, yet here we are in late March and they're miles off the pace. Not a bottle job though apparently.
Tbh I don't even know what that term even means anymore, every club in Europe have been "bottlers" at some point according to people on here. Most meaningless term on the site.

Never led the pack though or looked like favourites have United this season.

Good in patches but about 4th is probably right. Chelsea have looked good, and Spurs/City the best of the rest.

Had United been 5 or 6 points clear and flying early season, then yeah it would possibly have been able to be called a bottle job. As it is Utd just haven't ever looked like title winning material. But even still winning the league cup and being favourites for Europa isn't poor for Mourinho's first season and assuming United get top four it's a downright good first year.

Utd and Arsenal are both bang average teams nowadays. Only difference is Utd have spent far more to be at that level. Who are the bigger bottlers at the moment? Utd for that very reason. Debate over.
