Bates looks awful in all honesty but the lad Beerman looks a talent.

I thought he was Scottish at first and was about to say, he's a bit behind for a left back slot but he's Maltese

Bates as decent in the air to be fair and also is reasonably quick, however was very shaky with his distribution and perhaps his positioning could improve. As a result of that I dont think he will be starting against Celtic. But Beerman will i feel. And with Pedro knowing that Wallace is defo out for that game i think Pedro was testing him to see if he can handle the pressure

Anyone think that the reason that Pedro announced these two would start the day before the Killie game and also away at Aberdeen was to see how they reacted to the pressure.

++++

I do and said so at the time

Let's not forget they are 20 and 18 and we played them against killie

It is not like they were to 14 year olds we were going to play in the CL final at the nou camp 😂😂😂
----------------------------------------------------------------------
aye obv it was just Killie and at Ibrox on top of that so I think that was the reason for naming them before hand to increase the pressure on them in that game to test their mentality and the stepped it up again the next game by starting them away to Aberdeen

It is encouraging though that 2 kids from the 20s can step in to the first team and there is no dip in quality in that position

In fairness, the players they're stepping in for are average anyway

Beerman looks a much better talent than Wallace ever was. Also looks like he can run all day for 90 which is a good sign.

I really think Beerman has been superb, gets forward at the right times and with confidence and more games we will see him get to the by line more, he looks to be very assured on the ball and concentrating on defending first which is quite refreshing.

Agreed and as has been said Bates did look shaky in the Aberdeen match which is surprising as I think he is the eldest and more experienced and he had more cover playing CH
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yup and as a result I think we and Pedro now know that Bates aint ready for the OF game but can be more confident in playing Beerman. I also think that CB requires a bit more responsibility and is tougher to come into CB than it is fullback and winger positions, defo more demanding physically than the fullback position. But he would have known their level in terms of technical and playing ability but would have been unsure in terms of mentality and was the main reason for naming them and again playing them at aberdeen

Beerman looks a good prospect but let's not get carried away.

Bates has been a bit shaky at times but there have been some good signs too. We'll see how they both go. It would be safer to bring a more experienced CB at least in for the OF game, preferably Hill if fit.

I would be delighted if both play....Bates vulnerable to say the least and Dembele would relish that battle.....thought Aberdeen's best attacks came from diagonal balls down Beerman's side and Hayes got the better of him on a couple of occasions.....again Forrest would be looking forward to testing the rookie If they defy my prediction that they will struggle then you may have decent young players there

Surely that boy Bates was not a right back?

Christ almighty, he couldn't retain water ffs.

Agree BH, I am wary of getting carried away with Beerman. He will have ups and downs and to me he still isn't quite ready to play every week at that level. I would like to see him go on loan next season and get regular games, continue to develop physically and come back to have a genuine contest with Wallace for the left back spot.

Bates I think needs a lot of work on the ball but also worth remembering he was signed as a right back with a view to converting him to a centre back. It is still a relatively new position for him but you can't argue with 2 clean sheets.

I agree some people mentioning that he (Beerman) is better than Wallace need to wake up, he really aint near that level yet. Its just that we knew and so did Pedro weeks ago that Wallace would be out for the rest of the season it seems. And I do think Beerman at LB is a better option than Hodson or anyone else at the club
