He's been rather excellent for the most part, and every cog is important so I'd have no issue winning it. Wish we'd bought him rather than that useless French dab merchant.

Correct he's not the best player.

His talent is in destroying play rather than creating it and for that reason shouldn't be player of the year.

Kante performances are overated. He has just been part of 2 very efficient teams.

its a bit of what do you rather prefer

kante helps you not lose games

whilst hazard the other player who imo will win is a player that wins you games

"his game is limited"

Its not a myth that the majority of United fans no feck all about football is it.

jesus Christ have you even watched the guy play

To be honest you could flip a coin between Kante and Hazard and both deservedly warrant this individual gong.

Hazard should be winning it. If Kante plays well and Hazard doesn't, Chelsea don't work... If Hazard plays well, it doesn't tend to matter who else is playing well.

As for having him at UTD.... I'd prefer Herrera, to be honest (who's position most matches Kante's).

Ive watched him a few times this season and he does what he does brilliantly. But he's not hardly Pirlo on the ball.

whilst a brilliant footballer compared to others who have played that role in the past, viera, keane, davids etc yes his game is limited, you need to brush up on your own knowledge 1st before criticising

But in reality Kante is ahead of Herrera overall.

as a defensive player yes, but Herrera is asked to do the job of 2 players for us, carricks(attacking work) and pogbas(defensive work), Herrera would flourish a lot more playing with a player as strong as defensively as kante

Player of the year and the Ballon D'or shouldn't always be won by a flair attacking player yet they usually are.

I think defenders are as important as attackers.

Kante deserves it hands down in my opinion. He has been an integral part in 2 teams challenging for the league on consecutive seasons.

Hafi not getting any luck today.

He should get it for this season partly based on being integral to Leicester's title winning side last season? That's now how it's supposed to work.

personally, I think Toby should be POTY, and he is not even on the list. best defender in PL, and marshals the best defence in PL.

Hazard for me, he'll win a team 3 points, Kante won't

true, I know cannavaro won it in 2006 before the messi/Ronaldo dominance but again I think its the case of people voting for players than win games not players that help you not lose them which is just as important

No I was stating that he has been an integral part of 2 teams that challenged for the title. Without him I doubt they would be doing as well as both teams did. Midfielders are as important as strikers who usually win the awards.

But in the context of choosing the best player of this season, his previous exploits are irrelevant.

This is the kind of thing that happens with awards, though. It takes a while for the footballing commentariat (so addicted to received wisdom) to catch on to new ideas that people get recognised for past achievements. That's why only Ronaldo and Messi are in contention for the Ballon d'Or every year, and why Giggs won player of the season in his twilight years and why Kante is getting double the attention his (great) season deserves.

If this the one where the votes are done in January? Always found it odd.... What if Chelsea blow the title, surely a Spurs player would deserve it?
