I don't have a problem with police having it out with drunken violent fans acting like nob heads, but read the stories that's not always what happens.

No its not, but the Spanish are not used to having mobs of drunken people, not behaving violent, but behaving badly. They therefore find it more threatening than the British people and British police would do who are more used to it.

Was in Madrid for the QF a couple of weeks ago and the heavy handedness of the police was ludicrous. They had a couple of vans and a dozen or so police in riot gear on every corner and intersection between the city centre and the stadium (about 40 minute walk) and were generally presenting a threatening and sinister presence.

We deliberately avoided the Plaza Mayor (where City fans had been told to congregate by both City and Athletico) and I'm glad we did. Speaking to others who were there it was carnage with police piling into men, women and children indiscriminately.

Unfortunately Leicester are not without their share of nobheads and I heard that some reacted to the police actions by throwing bottles in the square and that of course only antagonised them further and brought a swift and brutal response. As is often the case, it is the innocent who get caught up and of the 8 arrested and given suspended sentences overnight in a kangaroo court to be allowed to leave, 2 were teachers, 2 were local businessmen and another couple were father and son who were walking onto the square when they were attacked by baton wielding riot police.

Didn't go to Seville, but whilst not on the same scale, Radio Leicester reported that the only problems there were caused by the over enthusiastic police.

I'm off the Barcelona this weekend for a stag party with 15 blokes and somewhat concerned about how we will be received. I'm old enough and ugly enough to keep my head down and act respectably to locals and police alike, but I don't know some of the others going so it could get interesting.

Be more concerned that you will be a huge target for pick pockets and bag snatchers, especially if you get drunk, so just keep your wit about you...........i doubt the police will be a problem

I lived in Marbella for a couple of months a few years ago. I was managing my mates bar and a binch of locals had a fight with some russian guys. I was splitting it up and the police came in and I was the only one arrested as I was English. They beat me with batons and kicked me numerous times at the station. They wouldn't let me use the toilet for 3 hours until my mate who owns the bar turned up to say I was an employee and not one of the people fighting.

They let me go with no apology. Bunch of cants the lot of them and I let them know it when i was leaving.

I've been to Barcelona a few times, including a stag do. As long as your party aren't dik-heads then I really would anticipate any issues.

I certainly didn't have an issue with the police at any point. In fact quite the opposite, could have done with them being around to stop the robbing hood culture there - steal from the foreigners and give to the locals.

From my experiences, I'd be amazed if all 15 of you come back with your wallet and phones.

Very true, but kinda makes sense as they obviously earn a lot from tourism. Although not much done to stop theft from tourists.

Thanks guys.

I have been to Barcelona before and loved it. It was a long weekend with my wife and daughters and we had no problems with the pick pockets etc. although I was constantly reminding my teenage daughters to put their mobiles away and out of sight.

A great city with loads to do. I just suspect walking around with 14 other inebriated blokes may invoke a slightly different reaction. As I said I don't know quite a few of the others - just hope they're not the stereotypical Brits-abroad, union jack shorts, nobheads.

Barca is naughty as well/

I have been many many times and seen many pick pockets/ I also saw a guy get stabbed one night by 3 African guys trying to rob him

On a plus point they have around 100 legal cannabis cafes in the city now so I prefer it to amsterdam as you have a beach as well which is usually full of hot chicks on a Sunday.

the city police are pussssy cats compared to the Guardia Civil (the paramilitary police corps)

My Dad , granddad , great granddad and great great granddad were in the Guardia Civil

Now those boys will give you a proper good kicking if you start bovver

they're not like the pussssified british police thats for
sure

those bayern fans got what they deserved. fack them

Hala Madrid
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mossos d'Esquadra in Barna (Barcelona) are even worse than the Guardia Civil believe me,who were incidentally Generalisimo Franco's personal guard!

If you want to see a really nice beach in Barcelona but just outside of the city get on the train underneath the Plaza Catalunya, from Las Ramblas it's the stairs at the top left of the Plaza and get a ticket to Mongat Nord.
It's about forty minutes by train and is a beautiful beach with lots of chiringuitos (beach bars) and where the locals in the know go!
