Like MUDD has said, long term this is never going to end well.
-----------------
and as RR said, things can change in football.

His issues at Real and Chelsea were not to do with calling players out in public.

We are all aware of his faults, but my god, some of you are so desperate to be "right" about him that you can't even enjoy our recent good run or the fact that some players have responded to something you don't like.

and yes, SAF has called out players... I can remember him blasting Nani after a carling cup game against Chelsea. Pep calls players out too, LvG called out Shaw, only last year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh well done. One player in over 20 years at the club. No one is after being "right". If he keeps this going, it won't end well for him in my opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Scholay, there's actually been quite a few. I've had a Google and this discussion is even going on in another forum. SAF said repeatedly how calling out players for public criticism is bad yet did so numerous times. There were a dozen + examples that I didn't remember listed and there's also quite a few articles about SAF 's public falling outs with quite a few of our star players over the years. Even more about the his brutal temper and the now famous "hair dryer" treatments.

I adore SAF but he was a dictator who ruled the club without tolerance of compromise for going on three decades. He was/is a genius but he was no saint. Rooney talks about the public humiliation some players felt being on the receiving end of a SAF hair dryer. He said some responded well, others cracked and wouldn't last.

You seem to have a pair of rose tinted glasses on in this matter. I understand as you've been pretty much constant anti Jose since before day 1, but no need to rewrite history. Jose's a jerk but he's a winner. He's actually quite similar to SAF in that regard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What are you talking about? Yes, players got the hair dryer treatment behind close doors. Again, please show me YouTube videos, quotes of ferguson calling out players whilst they were at the club. I was against anti football- he has come in and done the opposite and for that I commend him. I won't be like the village idiot that is Robb and support everything he does just because he guarantees " success."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is 1:09am and I'm on my phone. I'm not going to try to re-search and post all the links for you tonight. There's quite a few articles. I'll try to get to it tomorrow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In other words, you are talking utter ballacks. If you asked me the same question about Maureen, I won't even need to research.

How is anyone supposed to have a reasoned debate with someone who calls our current manager a derogatory name?

It's pretty pathetic.

Indeed. The village idiots, Robb and Clevereon were at all season. Have to laugh at these two bearing in mind their support for the clueless one.

But LVg was poor. He deserved to go and plenty of people wanted him out

Not a single person wants Jose out and he's doing better than the last guy. Why should we compare Jose with people from the past?

Why should we not. You're fool if you don't think our past two managers were sacked largely because they failed miserably in comparison to the previous managers winning record.

Indeed they did

But we should perhaps as fans try to draw a line and just move on with things

Jose is here now. He is a world class manager in his own right and is beginning to get things right

To be fair, there's not really any managers that can compare to that great man, so it's s fair point.

Mudd is largely correct in his assement of the Shaw situation.

Jose needed to. The squad he inherited was poor. SAF did a lot of great things for the club but he didn't leave the best squad for future managers so all 3 successors have had to spend to compete with a new playing field

No it wasnt. The squad a new Sunderland manager comes into is poor. Jose had a collection of players who were very decent. He didn't need to go and spank a lot of his budget on a vanity signing, that's been average at best. Ask yourself this: could Jose have done what SAF did at Aberdeen? Win 2 European trophies? He did something similar with Porto but with a multinational squad he didn't fully assemble, a great achievement no doubt.

SAF was a legend. Obviously. But Jose also has done some incredible things.

3 European trophies in 7 years. Titles in 4 different countries. Could win his 4th European trophy this season.

As for Pogba, a vanity signing? Totally unfair. He's a lot better than that.

Oh my Goodness... You have no idea what you are talking about.

Do you seriously not know what Mourinho has achieved in his career? He won both the UEFA Cup and Then the Champions League with FC Porto, a complete underdog in European competition. You cannot say they aren't, they have achieved nothing in Europe since Mourinho left. Mourinho then went to Chelsea and defeated the invincibles and set a record points total in his first season. He is the only manager apart from Ferguson to win back to back PL titles and in his first period at Chelsea, he had a better record over the three seasons than Ferguson did. He is the only manager who has ever outdone Ferguson domestically. Mourinho then moved to Inter and won the treble, defeating the best team ever to win the Champions league at a time when the Italian Serie A was being viewed as a second class league behind the PL and La Liga. Inter were underdogs completely. Every year they'd go out of the CL at the last 16 stage, Mourinho took them all the way to the trophy. He then moved to Real Madrid where he was the only manager to ever stop Prime Barcelona from winning La Liga. They won 4/5 La Ligas between 2008 and 2013, Mourinho was the only manager who could stop them from winning the league, and he did it with a fantastic attacking team that I think scored the most goals in a la liga season ever by any team. He then moved back to Chelsea and took an inconsistent team that finished 6th and then barely finished 3rd in the two seasons before he took over and turned us into Champions in one season.

How dare you question whether Mourinho could do whatever. His entire career he has beaten the odds to win trophies that no one expected he could win. He has pulled off some impossible wins and is the most successful manager currently still managing in terms of what he has achieved in the game. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. And I am sick and tired of Man Utd fans not appreciating what Mourinho has achieved in the game and realising just how great a manager he is.

Our squad still needs work to reach the level we should be at.

Mourinho not achieving what he should be doesn't change that.

If he continues to underachieve and leaves I've no doubt the squad will be in far better shape than it was when Fergie, Moyes and LVG all left.

This is more sensible. Is agree that our squad needs work, but let's face it compared to the rest of the prem, we were not in a bad shape when jose took over. I'm not criticising him, as i do think we are moving in the right direction, perhaps though marginally questionable methods.

Yes. When people asked who the best manager in the world was, it was always a debate between Mourinho, Ferguson and then Guardiola in the later years of Ferguson's career. It was always a debate. It was never clearly Ferguson.

Very Impressive achievements aside, Jose has never stayed at a club long enough (and without massive injections of cash) long enough to rebuild multiple times an all conquering team. Could he?

Methodology is different, and we may never know. Jose has achieved great things, no one denies that, but always short term.
