I see doyle has announced his retirement.
I thought he'd retired when he was with us..... well retired from goal scoring anyway.

He was more than a goalscorer too. I remember during his last season with us, Leigh Griffiths could only score whilst Doyle was on the pitch. I think only one of his goals came when Doyle was on the bench.
Doyle may not have been prolific, but his hold up play was some of the best I have ever seen at the club; the ball just used to stick to him when we were in the Premier League those first two seasons. He genuinely created space for others, allowed the team to move up the field.

agree with that
Doyle was a good player for us, particularly the first few.seasons, it isn't his fault he was given a thanks task or that we adopted tactics that restricted us and him in a big way.
My criticism of Doyle comes after relegation when he completely lost his edge and slowly went backwards and he was pretty dire in league one and we improved massively once he was finally dropped/moved on.

I was never a fan of Doyle, but any injury sustained from any sport, requiring that person to quit early is sad. I wish him well in his retirement.
