Some independence day, if anything, we're less prepared to enter negotiations now than we were a year ago.

i think we will have the next election after brexit. that is why i think the DUP agreement is a 2 year agreement.

they might be looking for campaign managers now but it might not necessarily mean for an election this year

laugh all you want but unless the tories seek a vote of no confidence (which is possible) they wont be forced out

unless of course the queen speech is voted down which is likely it wont be.

The 2 year deal is due to the special circumstances of this parliament sitting for 2 years instead of the usual 1 to get us through Brexit.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-to-confirm-two-year-parliament-to-deliver-brexit-and-beyond

After this session a new deal may or may not (no pun intended) be forthcoming and if not then there will be another general election.

6 months max. This nonsense cannot be allowed to continue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What nonsense would that be?

What you have here is democracy at work. If you're not happy with the situation you are quite within your rights to vote for a change in the next general election.

Or are you saying that it's nonsense because the result of the general election didn't go the way you wanted?

I mentioned on another thread that the DUP/Tory pact has already impacted on the Stormont Executive talks.

The DUP are now unwilling to budge on legacy (historic troubles investigations) as the pact they signed with the Tories explicitly states the government will not consider UK forces, (involved in the troubles) investigations. Which have riled the nationalist parties as this contravenes UK government impartiality.

Sinn Fein have also now dropped their insistence that Arlene Foster stepped down whilst the RHI investigation continues.

However the DUP have made concessions on absolutely nothing, as if we revert to direct rule, they have all the cards - having aligned themselves with the UK government. And SF do not take up their seats in Westminster.

Wwspd

SF do not want Stormont to work....why imply the DUP are the negative influence in this?

SF talk of legacy to mean revenge on troops, while their murder squads walked free, forever...some neck on the ra.

Making Arlene a stumbling block was SF bluster too!

Your insider must not hear what republican hard men say and want.....certainly not making Storming work with the DUP, in a Tory pact😀

They may not be forced out but neither will they get any of their agenda through, particularly on Brexit. I am happy for this lame duck Government to limp on whilst Corbyn continues to rise in popularity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Corbynmania is a fad, soon to pass.

People know what Jezza, Abbott and McDonnell are, hence they still lost to an awful Tory leader, with a dire manifesto.

The cult of corbyn is false hope.

Don't say lost, the looney left actually believe they won

waiting for CorBIN and McDonnell to resign as they said they would if they didnt win.

A hung parliament is what nobody wanted! As a proud socialist I am far happier with the result than you are!

Am enjoying watching Corbyn setting the agenda whilst he waits to take over as PM!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Corbyn sets no agenda, Trotsky😀

Abbott is an idiot.

McDonnell is a nasty hate filled Marxist, using death in a fire to shout murder, in order to attack May, who is no more to blame for Grenfell than any labour politician.
The labour candidate who won in Ken Chelsea signed off on the cladding, and new fire hazards are in flats in labour wards, so the murder jibe is even more ridiculous.

Typical of the new nicer far left though.

Even you know corbyns the next PM

Unless you've changed your mind, either way won't effect the end result.

We should pity them, they had their heyday with the likes of the Sun and the Mail setting the agenda, now the UK looks to be heading down a more progressive path their extreme views will become more and more sidelined....

Pity
