yeah, i didn't bother to address that because it wasn't true. you need to go and check last season's table, take out 17 goals for zlatan, add in 20 for a new striker (i'd like to think that £80m on a new striker guarantees you 20 goals, and then do your maths again.

last season zlatan got 17 of our 54 goals, so 37 from the rest of the squad, ie if everyone doubled their tally we would get to 74 without any from a new striker.

ie we don't need the rest of the squad to double their tally, we need them to increase it by c. 50%, ie pogba to get 8 not 5, mkhi to get 6 not 4, martial to get 8 not 5.

but carry on with your ranting if it makes you feel better.

i will admit that the "improves in 2nd season" argument isn't a particularly strong one....but other than one season at dortmund (that i seem to recall was injury-plagued) he has scored more than 4 goals every season in the past decade.

and even with that poor season at dortmund he averaged c. 8 goals a season for them, so i'm optimistic he can improve on the 4 he got for united last year.

I rate him a lot and to be fair he probably will score more next season, but it's just im failing to see where the massive optimism by certain posters that all your attackers will suddenly score more next season has come from.

some of it is typical club bias/wishful thinking for sure, if i wanted to focus on 2 players other than mkhi i'd go for pogba (scored 5, hit the post 6 times, was averaging c. 8 goals a seaosn for juve over the past 3 years) and martial (11 in his debut season, 5 last year, poor euros, looked tired/uninterested some of the time, this summer will have a proper break and a full pre-season - as will pogba, who joined the club after last season had already started).

That's fair. Although I would be wary about martial, and same applies to rashford, next year. Not because they aren't good enough to score 10+ but because if you get your rumoured signings I struggle to see them playing much in the league. With matic I'd assume you'd play a 3 with Herrera and pogba then perisic and morata would leave one position which I assume would go to Mata or mkhitaryan. Injuries permitting could see martial and rashford only starting 10-15 games in the league next year of you get your rumoured targets.

If you score 38 goals and have 38 clean sheets, you are champions as well. A good defence doesn't need a ton of goals. You only need 1 more goal than your opponent
