He's been trying to leave for the last 3 seasons.

I think it's best for everybody. We don't play with a defensive midfielder and thus chances are limited for him unless playing him in defence which is a waste. We have Can, Henderson and Grujic who all look best in the deepest role and you would hope Grujic has got over injuries and will get games this season. We will probably have Milner to choose from in midfield also with Klopp sure to bring in a left back.

I'm liking Grugic, but he's a different player to Lucas. He's never going to provide much cover to the back four. He can't play in a back four either.

Neither is Lucas as he won't get games due to us not playing with a defensive midfielder. The three I mentioned all look capable of playing in one of the two deeper roles, are all younger and at least two are better than him in that role, with Milner also probably coming back into midfield. If we need to use a dedicated defensive midfielder, I'm sure Can can do that role. I don't see Lucas playing in defence again with there being no secret of us looking for a centre back, which will make Matip, Lovren, Klavan, An Other and Gomez who I really want to see get games this season.

The time is right, for me.

He's been a great servant and seems like a top bloke. Would be happy if he stayed but would understand if he wanted a move , good luck to him either way

No bid from Newcastle for him?

He's the last player we had left from the Rafa era isn't he?

Huge favourite of mine but for his career if he wants games he should move on. Would like to have seen him get a testimonial though.

Yeah, who would have thought Lucas would outlast them all? Sadly he wasn't quite the same after the serious injury he suffered on his knee back in 2012. I think his career would have really taken off at that point. He's still done well though.

Kuyt wont be too happy.. he's got to find a new tenant now.

Perhaps it's not the best time to remind ourselves but, for me, he always gave too many free kicks away in dangerous positions. Sad to see him go though. I thought he was destined for Newcastle.

Sad to see him go, but we need better if we are to challenge for the title.

Unlikely we will get a better squad player tbh with the same experience and versatility.

Milner? With the arrival of Robertson at LB?

Experience of mediocrity

IMO this is win win

1. LFC get 5mil, wages off books and a squad slot for another player

2. Lucas gets 2/3 years in italy, in the run in rome, good wages, play all the time

We should wish the lad well and hope he might come back to club as a coach in academy.

Club hierarchy should be actively seeking next generation of coaches like this.

A declining return on his inflating wages, the rumoured 100k is almost enough for two decent squad players.

Will miss him though, hes been a great servant to the club

I'll miss him. I've always liked him a lot.

Good game that was, atmosphere was banging..

Should've seen Reina - note that he's the keeper but the first one to celebrate with Ngog when he scored that at the end.
