La Liga/Serie A season 2023-24

Incidentally, thought Atlet had a perfectly good goal ruled out after Chiellini’s dive. VAR ref didn’t have the balls to rule out Gimenez’s though for what was arguably more of a foul than the Chiellini one. Poetic justice.

Also felt Sterling’s goal was preceded by a pretty clear foul, which the English commentator termed “muscling off the ball” or some such.

nice article about the origins of Simeone's football philosophy

Cholo’s greatness as a character is inversely proportional to Atleti’s football. Can’t ever remember digging his players out, and he rarely whinges about refs and the likes. He does have the occasional go at Madrid, but that’s fair enough.

their football is v reminiscent of the italian clubs in the 90s...and just as effective

Betis!

Setién can't seem to get any kind of consistency out of them this season.

defensively they're v shaky that's for sure

posted on 21/2/19

They want to defend with the ball, but they can be completely toothless for long spells. They make it far too comfortable for opponents, who can sit without facing any real danger and choose their moments to counter.

Who, Chelsea?

More or less, yeah!

...but with a 40-yr-old William, no Hazard and Emile Heskey for a striker.

Well, that last bit is pretty easy to imagine, tbh.

zenit v villarreal

decent draws for the spanish clubs i think

Certainly looks doable for the first two, Villarreal will probably have a tough time though.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t give Liverpool fans any ideas

that's crazy !!!

zenit are a well supported club with some naughty fans for sure

Must’ve been awesome for the players, but if I were a player I reckon it would’ve scared the crap out of me just to think how those fans might react to a defeat.

That’s amazing! Chelsea are really facked if they cannot appeal this transfer ban. New contracts for Giroud, Pedro and Wilian.

posted on 22/2/19

They'll appeal and a process will get underway enabling them to buy players in the summer, then they'll be found guilty ala Barca.

posted on 22/2/19

It doesn’t always work like that. It depends how long the appeal process takes. Atleti appealed before the summer transfer window but it was upheld and they couldn’t sign a players in the summer.

Tough tie for Inter in the EL.

Some news regarding La Liga.

ITV4 will broadcast one game per matchday however they won't get their pick of the games so no Clasico unfortunately.

Coverage starts on Sunday with Levante v Madrid.
