No standout ties in the Europa. Chelsea and Arsenal look to have favourable draws so would be expected to progress. Which could aid us getting top four if the schedule proves difficult for them.
Sky should get La Liga again.
interesting development
i believe ITV are also going to have a highlights programme
i wonder when the contract becomes available again to broadcast la liga (i presume it'll be in the summer, because i can't see eleven sports carrying on with it next season) if ITV make a serious bid
I’d be surprised if ITV stump up for the full package.
Carlo left us because of Bale
https://www.football-italia.net/135029/ancelotti-bale-too-egotistical
He may well have been one of the reasons ZZ walked too. He clearly wasn't fond of him.
I'm not going to knock Bale though. When I put everything on the scales, weighing his recurrent injuries and lacklustre performances against his impact in decisive games, then I think his signing has just about paid off.
There's no knowing if we'd have won more domestically with a different star taking his place, or if we'd won less with someone else on the pitch in those big games.
Another to that list of problems the Bale transfer has caused. Really has been a bad transfer.
Nah, as said, it hasn't been the best, but his key moments imo have made him worth it ... not by a huge margin, but worth it nonetheless.
I also think we dumped Ronnie at the right time.
(Even though I admittedly started calling for it about 3 or 4 seasons too early! )
I don’t think the key moments really justify the outlay, to be honest. And when you consider the issues he’s caused the club by his presence there - in terms of recruitment and managers - even less so, in my opinion.
I think getting rid of Ronaldo was a mistake and this season is proving as much. You should have sold us Bale when Ed was offering stupid money and signed Mbappe.
Bale’s a weight hanging around Madrid’s neck that you probably won’t be able to shift. And while I’m sure he’ll contribute with some big moments in the coming years, the chances are he’ll affect your transfer policy and wage structure, and sit on the treatment table until seeing his contract out.

I fully get what you're saying Daz, but he's made crucial contributions in three CL finals, as well as other lesser competitions (e.g. the clásico Copa del Rey final). Interestingly enough, they came in games where our supposed star player was largely anonymous.
Three CL titles is huge for any club, even Madrid. Put it this way, which club in world football wouldn't consider it worthwhile to break the world transfer record if you told them those were going to be the returns?
I get what you are saying, but I think it’s a disingenuous argument because it completely disregards the impact of others. And ultimately makes the contribution, which admittedly is huge and on a big stage, on a few matches more important than the whole contribution to the club - and I think you have to factor in the negative aspects. In isolation it’s a good signing due to the points you make, but I really thing all things considered it’s been a bad one for Madrid despite the success.
My argument isn't that it's been a success though, but rather that those contributions he's made just about mean it's been worthwhile - as per my original comment, which was that "I think his signing has just about paid off."
Fair enough, I understand your position in that respect.
Watching Cadiz. 2-3 up at Nastic, lost their best player to injury in the first half though. Winning this would put them back in a playoff spot with a very good run of fixtures coming up after playing leaders Albacete next week.
Couple of minutes left, just about clinging on.
Great play by Jairo for Cadiz, who cracks his head open against a Nastic player's elbow to wind the clock down. Great piece of skill that.
3 minutes over, come off it ref!
Yessss! 2-3 FT.
Cadiz host leaders Albacete next week. If they can beat them without Machis, they'll be in with a great shot of making the playoffs.
Yeah, well.
Peks, was wondering earlier ...
Who do you usually root for when Barça play an an English side?
Who would you root for out of Liverpool and Barça?
And do you have a favourite English side?
englisg side i support; everton
my mum's family are everton fans
i woud probs just support liverpool, in a match with farza
in times gone by, i would have slightly favoured farza in that match up.....but in recent years by hatred of farza and everything they stand for has amplified
still hate liverpool fc almost as much as farza though
pair of cant clubs
Have there ever been Catholic/Protestant dividing lines in the Everton/Liverpool rivalry? I do remember my brother pointing out that the city's Catholic cathedral had been nicknamed Paddy's Wig-wam, but can't clearly remember about the footy thing.
