Transfers and Contracts

I think Can will stay, though it is concerning that the new contract hasn't been signed yet. Really hope he does, as there are signs that he'll develop into a top notch midfielder.

I'm getting pretty doubtful that we'll sign Keira or VVD. It's all been too public, and both clubs seem to be digging their heels in, which is fair enough. As for alternatives, I haven't the foggiest!!

If he is to sign anything it needs to be very shortly or be sold.

Germans have a long history of playing the free transfer game.

However if he doesn't sign I think he would play the final year as committed as anyone.

If a 10mil loss on him that much to have a cm for year is the question.

I think he will sign, probably soon too. He's only just returned to training after being given an extended break following the Confed Cup.

Reports recently are that he will sign, and that Juve have moved on to other targets like Matuidi.

I don't think we have an alternative to VVD. There are not many centre backs around who offer the genuine aerial dominance that we need to improve our back line. We will sign him or sign no-one for centre half.

Keita I don't know, but I am guessing we do have alternatives in mind and are just seeing how it plays out, maybe until after the CL qualifiers when we know who isn't in the CL and might be looking to move bavause of that.

I suspect Can is playing the waiting game to see who Klopp signs this summer. He's competing with Hendo, Wij and possibly even Cout for a midfield spot. With Milner possibly looking for another slot in the team and the efforts to Sign Keita, then you couldn't blame him for thinking he's not first choice.

I think he just wants to play it's not a matter of commitment to the club.

Aside from that I can't help thinking he doesn't produce as much as his talent suggests. We need a bit more from him.

Leon Goretzka from Schalke is top class for a fraction of the price of Keita too I would imagine, although Bayern are interested in stockpiling him as well

100% with you, ARE. I'm a supporter of Can, but he's the kind of player you want to see playing better, more consistent than he is. For me, he's playing the waiting game. I think that if we get Keita, he will see his own chances of being a first choice diminish and he will be off.

I think the issue with Can is that he wants more playing time, which obviously cannot be guaranteed with Henderson, Wijnaldum & now possibly Milner in similar positions. He may leave on a free next summer.

I still think we will get VVD. He doesn't want to play for Southampton, and I'm sure they would rather cash-in than keep him all season.

My concern is that if we don't get him we won't look at any other CB options as Klopp will not buy for the sake of it.

Sums up Can in a nutshell for me. Looks like there is a great player in there but yet to see it emerge.

Yeah I agree with many on this thread, Can is a good player with the ability to be an excellent player. His ability to dominate a midfield for a man of his physical stature and skill set is actually quite poor. If he improves even a little and gets consistency then he'd be a regular starter, my fear is the I don't see huge progress in the last couple of years so I'm not sure it's going to happen.

I'd like him to stay but wouldn't be too disappointed if he left. Which will inevitably happen as he's in my user name and the previous players in there were Sterling and Ibe. Next time I'm naming myself after Lovren...

VVD will be signed I suspect. I doubted it but now he's refusing to play for Soton I suspect it'll be a matter of time.

Keita I really doubt unless be makes a similar stance. I doubt we'd sign anyone else and would wait the year for his buy-out clause. Trouble is, another good season and that could turn into a wages bidding war. Only ray of hope on that one is the Leipzig diectors bizarre comments about Keita's advisors - unlikely to have gone down well so if Keita was minded to push for a move that could be the catalyst.

From what we're hearing, Emre wants a guaranteed place in the starting 11 in DM, before signing a new contract. Its a bizarre request and quite unreasonable. I think if he wants a place in the starting 11, then he needs to earn it like anyone else. And as for the rumours of Juve looking to sign him; we'll 2 things spring to mind
1) They are bluffing if they are telling them hell start every game in DM for them and maybe were being too honest by saying we can't guarantee it.
2) Our midfield is good, but it isn't exactly stellar. So if you dont hink you can displace one of Hendo, Gini, Lallana and possibly Couts, then maybe you're not cut out to be a LFC player. I'd say he has a better chance of starting for LFC than hes does of walking onto the current Sere A champions and European Cup runners up.

So is Can possibly waiting on what happens with Keita because he may be pushed further down the pecking order? One of our issues last year was lack of depth especially when looking at the substitutes bench. As is reported keita has a release clause next year but if we didn't qualify for the champions league would he sign for us anyway? I know it's down to personal choice but if we could only sign one of vvd or keita I would sign vvd and buy someone like Kondogbia or Goretzka instead of keita.
