Alright Nev - here we go again. Buckle up and sit tight.
Have zero hope for Friday seeing as we've not beaten Arsenal away since Jesus was knocking around, but fingers crossed we get a decent point.
Arsenal looked sharp in spells on Sunday, so our defence will need to be at their best to get us a result. Iheanacho to come on and steal it?
We always have hope!
With regards to recruitment - this transfer window still has a way to go and I think there is a fair bit of activity to come yet. Let's judge when all is done, but what I will say is that we should not sell Mahrez to Roma.
I'd rather he rot in the reserves than accept their pathetic bid. He sounds like he is knuckling down so depending on what happens with Arsenal, he may still be here at the end of January. I repeat, if Sigurdsson is worth >40m, Mahrez is worth >50.
Onwards.
See the one star wonders back for the new season.
As for Marhez i don't think he will rot anywhere he's a professional he will either move or play for us.
I expect it to go right to the wire or a January move for more money.
I don't think the price of Sigurdsson is the issue its inflated for many reasons but mainly because he will fit straight in and his free kicks are worth the dosh. We have created a bidding war with Everton and we will lose that one.
Firstly I thought it time to ditch the DDDD ref, time to move onward and upward.
As for this Friday, I am very much like Mersey, my heart says we can get a draw but my head says that they will be just to strong with or without Sanchez ( although I hope he plays as he is in my Sun Dream Team).
It will be interesting to see what CS & MA have picked up on from the pre-season games and then worked on through this week.
I think our summer has been about as successful as any of us could have seriously hoped for, would still like to see another CB at least before the end of the window.
As for Mahrez, Roma always seemed a bit of a weird move for him, not quite the heights that he thought he would climb to through the summer. I think he would prefer to stay here until what he and his agent class as a larger profile club come in for him, in the meantime the onus is on him to perform to keep himself in the spotlight, so is it a win win for us?
And isn't is great to be back at the start of the season again, I am quietly hopeful that we can carry on stabilising our PL place this season and hope to see a Top 10 finish.
So here we go, daily banter, OTW League, Sun Dream Team, frustration, joy, hope, thinking we know better, falling out with Nev, JG appearing out of the woodwork again at some point, all of these to look forward to.
Let the games begin!!!!!
UTF
I'm feeling a 1-1 opening fixture, a bit more optimistic than I might normally be when facing Arsenal.
I think Arsenal are under more pressure for a strong start.
Be interesting to see Shaky's line up, Matty James to start ? Do we need to accommodate Shinji ?
Don't Leicester have the third highest net spend?
I'm a pessimist when it comes to footy - that way you can't be dissappointed !
A very tough opening 6, which could easily see us in the bottom 3. Overall, I see us ending up around 12th at the end of the season.
I can't see Mahrez leaving until January so he will have to put in a shift to get the move he wants. But I can see Drinkwater leaving. I have been a big fan of his but think he would be easier to replace. Possibly an opportunity to move away from the long-ball if we dare.
Overall review - mixed. Hope it is going to be better than our pre-season !
Don't Leicester have the third highest net spend?
-----------------------
Source?
And when?
We weren't 3rd at the start of last season, after January transfer window, by the end of the season or by the end of July...did you mean since we bought nacho? Still not sure that would have us as 3rd
Third is probably not far off for this summer's transfer window - this is from a couple of weeks ago and so excludes the £25M spent on Iheanacho:
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/633419/Premier-League-net-transfer-spend-summer-window-2017-sportgalleries
I'd be surprised if it stays this way however as we surely will move on one or two of last summer's signings. UTF
So here we go
Will we be singing " We are top of the league" on Friday night. Just the small matter of doing something we havent done for 44 years, win at Arsenal.
M|ersey I know Frankie Wortho was a god, but
Jesus ??? and I think he scored in that game.
Im going for the usual on Friday. Arsenak 2 City 1 with a second half injury time winner .
Overall I am going for a 9th place finish and a good cup run ( hopefully the FA cup)
and Busby yeah we are third in net spend (well were)
but I guess thats because we havent solde anybody
for any major fee, despite nearly every member of our squad being rumoured to be going somewhere. Mahrez / Drinkwater could change all that though Ive got a feeling that neither will go in this window, despite SSNs usual tripe.
Looking forward to the new season and great to hear from you again Nev.
UTF
As you say Double Decker, to he even close it must be since Iheanacho sighed and I'm not sure I'll be that stressed by us being 3rd net spend for currently 5 days, particularly as it is likely to change anyway
I understand we have the second highest net spend at present as well. Obviously Everton have spent a lot but they've covered it all with the sale of Lukaku. That kind of indicates that the fees bandied around at the moment are all dependent on each other - that it would all be the same money just moving between clubs.
Nev - question for you: How long are you going to give Shakespeare at the start of this season before you either call or infer for his head?
*third highest net spend. Behind the two Manchester clubs.
Nev III will accuse Mike Stowell of witchcraft, convince the owners Craig Shakespeare advocates witchcraft or at least acknowledges it.....head. Off.
I think the fact we have such a high net spend is fantastic, we've bought 3 great players at reasonable prices and lost no main player!
I also believe Itchy could be the transfer of the season in the Premier League for the amount we paid, for Leicester on a par with Cambiasso in eventual hero worship, to get such a quality player at his age is fantastic.
Yes! Football's back!
Lots of debate again whether it be right or wrong. Makes the world go around.
Loads of banter, agreement, disagreement, debate & knowledge.
Some good characters on the Leicester board.
Let's keep it clean & friendly (as friendly as it can in the heat of debate), and enjoy this season.
By the way................... Martyn Waghorn has signed for Ipswich Town for £1 million pounds on a 2yr contract. Good player is Waggs. Cue heated debate!!?
Up the City!
Waghorn,a lot of effort, no end product.Possibly the worst striker of the ball, endless shots off target.
Average championship player.
Yeah, unfortunately I wouldn't be very excited as an Ipswich fan. Nice bloke and will try hard, but in the English leagues he's a journeyman.
For Waghorn read Nugent,Howard and Ulloa all good but not premiership good when they payed for us but good luck to him.
The DD to Chelsea thing has legs but all those saying James can replace him has to remember imo he's our Mr sicknote. We haven started in anger yet and when the tackles fly in will he remain fit.
Do you think there will be an end of window clear out of midfielders on loan? still need as many say right back cover. We got a decent goal keeper i here and Kasper.
So many years from the 1970's onwards of defeat after defeat at the Gunners comes to an end on Friday. Well thats what the camel told me.
Now wheres my mike Stowell Voodoo doll ( I will let you into a secret its only because i think his wifes lovely shhh mums the word)
Hi all, trust you've had a good 'summer'.
I'm hoping we do well this year, and like the business done so far, but expecting the usual result at the Emirates. However, if we somehow manage to pull off a shock, the journos will be full of 'can Leicester repeat the fairytale season' tosh. That wouldn't last long though as we have a really tough start to the season.
