Didn't Mahrez win player of the year the season before last?

Yes

And whilst mane is liverpools best player imhsi return isn't excellent. By any means. It's good. That said he did miss a month playing at the Acon.

And injury

Manes return last season was very impressive given he missed over a month for the afcon and then a few months at the end of the season with injury, so 13 goals in basically half a season is mightily impressive.

On Rakitic if he were to be included in the deal, I don't think that's a good move personally. He wasn't great last season and the season before it was the same. You have to go back a couple seasons to when he was last a top player. I'd want straight cash for coutinho if he were to go, Barca only want to include their cast offs in the deal and they aren't that good anymore, it's not like when they had players like Pedro or Sanchez as cast offs.

The season before we brought Mane he was in and out of the Soton team. Played a lot but spent time dropped to the bench as well. He was erratic for want of a better word. Talent was there, consistency wasn't.

That's the reason I was worried when we signed him. He's absolutely exceeded my expectations though, he's a danger every time he's on the pitch.

I wouldn't necessarily say he's better than Coutinho though. He's more direct, quicker and a handful for defenders but Coutinho can operate in areas of the field that Mane is much less effective in.

Coutinho's ability to transition us from defence to attack is a joy at times. Sets up so much. Matter of time before he leaves though and I really can't see Rakitic coming - he signed a huge new contract with Barca only a few months ago. Why would he ditch that for us right now? Can't see it.

I agree that he remains underrated, even though he got more plaudits last season

First thought is that it's because he was at Southampton, but that hasn't stopped VVD being talked about as one of the best CBs in the league

He got into double figures twice in a row for Southampton out wide. That's not easy. The list of wide players who have done that is small

Yet when he was linked to Utd/Liverpool/Spurs, even I wasn't convinced he was of that calibre. Not sure why, in hindsight. Just not a big name

No doubt that I now see him as the best wide forward in the league. A lot of wide forwards tend to be limited, like Walcott or Salah, but he can do everything. Dribble, score and create at pace

Posted this the summer before he joined Liverpool. Imagine if we sold Liverpool Walcott and got Mane. Yet Wenger is paid in excess of 8 million a year to spot talents

I think Firmino is our most underrated player. We don't underrate Mane and we don't overrate Coutinho. He can do things no one else can do.

Manes goal return is excellent for a wide player. Hes not a centre forward

We were in for him but we baulked at either the asking price or wages - probably both actually - and decided to pay slightly reduced amounts for Sh!tssoko.

Very good player, he's not just one of those pace merchants, he can get his head up and see what's going on around him and make the pass if that's the better option. His goal return speaks for itself.

If only African players like drogba, Essien, okocha, eto, mahrez and toure were given recognition.

He isn't underrated at all, maybe he was when he first signed for Liverpool but no way is he now.

I would say he is underrated, he would literally start for every team in the world bar PSG and RM. Insane talent and may end up with POTY at the end of the 17/18 season.

posted on 16/8/17

I hope it remains the same itherwise he be off next season as well

posted on 16/8/17

Mane is one of the top players in the league for sure.
Think he will up his stats this season too and his recognition will up too.

posted on 16/8/17

Not sure anyone underrates the guy, with no AFCON break, you'll probably see him shortlisted for player of the season. I'm not sure what's going to happen with Coutinho this summer but either way, Liverpool will be looking to Mane to make things happen for them.

I would argue Eto'o and Toure have never been given the recognition they truly deserve. Eto'o is possibly the greatest striker of the 00 era but not recognised so (Henry & Ibra also up there).

Yaya 13/14 is the greatest season any midfielder has ever had in the PL and he doesn't get the recognition for it. Best talent the PL has had this decade but without the praise he deserves cos he is a bit of a diva.

Eto'o was great and recognised as so winning several honours and I think coming third one year in the ballon d'or. He was a great finisher, quick and had a bit of flair. But never as good as Henry, Ibra, Ronaldinho and probably even villa and a prime torres.

Yaya greatest season ever, bold claim. Think lampard in 2010 was better for starters. And lets face it yaya never done it in europe like lampard and gerrard have, while maintaining a high quality in the PL.

posted on 16/8/17

Either way someone said they were not given recognition, I think most people saw essien as the best all round midfielder in the league when he was in his prime, same with yaya and saw drogba as the best striker in the league.

Most people also saw eto'o including myself as one of the best strikers of the generation.
