personally the 523 is my preference.

but that would mean either Sanchez or Dier would have to sit out
----------------------------------------------------------------------
523 was my preference when we had two fast wing backs but ATM we don't so I'd stick with the 4231
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I actually think the 3 is better for the slower fullbacks.

Less ground to cover, protection in behind when they are caught up the pitch.

Less reliance on pace, more reliance on delivery
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to think otherwise but don't really know anymore.

The beauty of the 523 with Walker/Rose was that it got the most out of our fullbacks and was an injection of pace into the attacking areas of the team which we lack.

Now the 523 is used to make our fullbacks not look as bad as they are which seems a bit convoluted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Chelsea managed to nurse Alonso through playing like it.

Obviously you get exposed against an opposing flier, but there is better protection with Jan or Dier down the flanks, secure that there are two other CBs there.

In a back four, we saw with Mane the holes that are left with a slower FB

This is a signing with a longer term view to replace either of the CB or Dier.

No one asking why Levy spent this on a position we are perfectly good in.

Yes HRH but my point is before 523 was to get the best out of Walker/Rose whereas now it is to compensate for the deficiencies in Davies/Tripps.

If we are paying out over £40 million for this young player, surely we should value Wimmer, a young international, at more than £20m?

I mean it would be madness for the gap at this stage in their careers to be double.

I think we should be pushing for £25 million as a minimum.

Holland is a shiiite league to be fair

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, the PL have a 5 billion TV deal, which is money you are throwing around to buy anyone you need. There is no talent in the Dutch league that will stay long because they are all snatched up by other more rich leagues. So there is no chance ever of the Dutch league becoming better. Back in the 70s when money was less of an influence we basically ruled Europe with Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV.

He appears to be the new wonderkid CB but I'd imagine this is definitely for the future.

Of the recent wonderkids it took Varane a lot of time to establish himself at RM. Ditto Marquinhos at PSG. Zouma is now out on loan.

It's a tough position to nail as a youngster IMO.
