Whilst I am in a minority in thinking the sharp incline in transfer fees and wages is normal considering the marketability pod football, especially the Premier and Champions Leagues; €125m for Coutinho is crazy, he is not that good, or exceptional.
I've been impressed with Liverpool's stance on this saga, but blimey, take that deal now
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How do we benefit by accepting the money we don't need?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You don't need? Okay.
You reinvest and build a better squad, you are too weak past your best 11, and there are players out there who could contribute more, Aubameyang for example, would an upgrade on your forwards and still leave £40m for a Midfielder
So, like that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Simple fact is that clubs aren't selling they're best players and if we accept £120m then players values go up £20m.
You don't improve by selling your best players.

The current price is born of out particular circumstances leading to Barceloan being desperate beyond belief. It wont be near 100 million in a year because, as you know, he isn't worth it.
That isn't to say it's wrong not to sell.

You do if you bring in better, and there's better out there than Coutinho, who, I'm not even so sure suits Klopp's style; not saying he doesn't add anything, he clearly does, but he is not a player I could ever see Klopp buying

So if there's better out there, what do you think the selling club are going to do with the asking price?
It's being reported that without add ons the fee was only around £80m with one being if he wins the ballon d'or. Laughable they think we'd accept that with all the money they have.
Anyone suggesting that the club are crazy to turn this offer down should remember that:
- his best years are ahead
- just signed long term deal
- Barca have unlimited cash
- Paulinho and Sig just gone for around £40m
- the annual inflation of transfer fees (in 2 years, we could be talking £200m
And finally, and I think this is the most important. There's still 13 days left of window. That's an awful lot of time so it would be foolish to accept now.
Liverpool in very strong position. I still expect him to go but we're likely holding out for £130m and the majority of that upfront.
Personally, I'd take the money and offer 100m for Keita, who, if everything said about him is to be believed, would improve our team immensely. But on the other hand, I applaud and completely back the club in their stance. Long term, this just might benefit us more, by showing any potential targets that we do have ambition, and are not just a selling club.
Bigger picture 👍
Makes sense for Liverpool to reject this offer. They cannot attract a player as good as him so it'll weaken their squad. Fair play, didn't expect them to dig their heels in when the money is this big.

Name one who Liverpool could sign.
The breakdown of Barcelona’s bid would have seen Liverpool receive a guaranteed payment of £82.1m with a further £36.5 million. [Paul Joyce]

Barca are turning themselves into a laughing stock. In all likelihood this has probably ruined any small chance they had of signing him, by annoying our owners.

Absolute madness to refuse that money if the rumours about Draxler are legitimate.
Coutinho is a phenomenal player on his day but he's inconsistent.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly this, can get Keita and Draxler in and the team would be exponentially better
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well we can't get Keita can we? RBL are refusing to sell at any price.
And draxler is so over rated, have people actually watched him in the last 18 months? He's been average, there's a reason PSG are willing to let him go 6 months after signing him.
