I don't think Barcelona are prepared to wait another 12 months

Great. Then we keep him. It's not our problem what's going on at Barcelona.

I suspect however that he would be a long term target for them as he's exactly the type of player they need. Unfortunately. Which means this type of play will have a longer window for his 'dream move'.

In all seriousness though if that bid is genuine then it's a no brainer. Take the money and run. Draxler is on the market as are a few other good players.

Coutinho will never live up to the 130m billing. He's a good player but he's not in that bracket.

And still poor Eric doesn't get it

Here is what RB Leipzig said about transfering Keita;

"We won't sell players who are still under contract just to earn a lot of money," Mateschitz told Sport Bild. "Let me give you an example: Only recently, we received a €75 million bid for Naby Keita. No way!

"He is still under contract and he will fulfil it. Like I said: To sell him would not only be evidence that we don't have belief to our fans but also send the wrong signal for our other players, like Timo Werner for instance. He's also sought-after."

It's not just about Coutinho but the message it sends. Klopp has come out and said we are no longer a selling club also. The board have come out and said the same.

Now don't get me wrong, they could accept this massive offer, but if they don't it would, to me, seem prudent in the long run.

This ain't football manager.

Love how underrated Cout is outside of Liverpool, like have people nopt seen him play football

He walks past players like they're not even there, has a wand of a right foot, can operate in the tightest of spaces.

But he's inconsistent I hear them cry, well he's still young so you know there's that.

Fact is he has consistently improved each season to the point where he is now being sought after by Barca willing to pay over 100 million, that says allot.

He's obsessed with the non-transfer of Couts.

I've said it before but I think its worth repeating:

Poor wee thing.

So it's not just us City fans that think this then?

Let me get few points,

1. Coutinhio is a good player, no doubt. However he is not worth £138m even in inflated market.

2. Barca are willing to pay over the odds because every club and their dog knows they have generated huge £$ from Neymar sell. Barca are desperate.

3. It's no brainer to grab £138m and run...doesn't make any sense to keep a player who wants to leave especially when u getting that much of amount.

4. He won't win you trophies single hand. For god sake don't even say he is young, improving etc...he is 25.... at the peak now...(usually 23-28 is peak for most of the players?) His record isn't exceptional compared to Bale, Suarez, Sanchez etc. 34 goals in 130+ games?

So I just don't understand the fuss !

What's the point in them getting £100m if they know they won't be able to spend it on a player as good as Coutinho?

If bought this window, Draxler will easily fetch more than £60 million, as will van Dijk, and likely any target Liverpool are chasing for their first team. As soon as they receive £120 million+ for Coutinho, all selling clubs will know their situation and fleece them as a result.

Exactly, although at £130m for Coutinho looks good business financially the club on the field will be a lot poorer.

I think they will hang on to him.

Despite all the quotes from the world and his dog (but no direct quotes from Coutinho himself, strange that!) about him wanting to leave, I'm yet to be convinced he actually wants to go now.

We have plenty of cash to spend on new players. 60 odd million set aside for VvD and a 70 million bid for Keita prove that. We haven't gone for anyone else which suggests that we desperately want these two players. What's the point of having another 138 million and potentially not being able to get who we want this window and losing Coutinho? Why not wait until next summer, sell Coutinho at slightly less but still probably 100 million and actually have the structure in place to spend that money on targets identified?
________

I agree that it will be difficult for Pool sign quality players this late in the window despite of money. Plus targets will be expensive knowing Pool have £130+m to spend.

Let me tell you one thing, these extra cash money aside to sign the players is all bollllocks at times. Unless you know someone very senior in the club you won't know the truth and exact numbers. People who run clubs are no mugs or naïve. They want to keep fans happy by stating we have cash reserves etc...they might have and they might be saying we will spend but true story could be different than that.

Pool despite of being in CL have had issues signing big name players and occasionally players have snubbed Pool.

Didn't Utd keep Ronaldo for another when he wanted to leave for big big money or are you saying Fergie was wrong to keep him for another year

He doesn't need to do that. I've got no issue with him, we've managed so far and I'm sure it won't take him long to repay the club.
