Kane your main man usually starts slowly

posted on 27/8/17

Completely agree - in the last couple of years our slow starts have arguably cost us the title. I'm praying we bring in at least one attacking player before the window closes but wouldn't it have been great to have had that option today? I know ultimately bad defending cost us but if we'd broken Burnley down earlier on maybe we'd have been a couple of goals up.

Levy costs us every year, and I don't understand why. If we did end up with last minute bargains then fair enough but last year we ended up with Sissoko, for £30m!!

We should've got Defoe on a free
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Defoe is a quality option to have off the bench. He'd be good for any PL team in this capacity. It's just whether he wants to be an option or a starter.

Correct OP, that's in part because our squad is never in place or even close to being so by the time the season starts. Admittedly Lamela is injured at the moment, but no team with title aspirations should be turning to Sissoko if the game isn't going our way or one of the starting XI isn't performing on the day. This idea of hoping that clubs drastically reduce their asking prices from August 17th onwards is false and also ridiculous if being ill-prepared for the start of the season is the consequence.

Agree with that, Defoe wants to be starting.

He was fantastic for Sunderland last season. A guy in his mid 30s feeding off scraps, keeping his head up and working hard. Got to like Defoe. Can't believe he went to the MLS for a season when he still could've been playing in the PL.

I have just got home nightmare journey back gave plenty of time for reflection.

Leaving it too late and the being "too cute" is hurting us. I actually think we are disgustingly arrogant as a club.

We could go out and buy quality sheer quality. Instead we spend loads on potential and then scrape round for some change for other positions. Janssen, N'kodou, N'jie, even sanchez it is all big money off the back of one season. Where we could go and buy quality we swap it for the supermarket value but pay the same price. Sissoko and Fazio spring to mind.

I have no issue if we have no money because of the stadium but we would not waste big money on the likes of n'kodou/njie/janssen. Use the money to buy actual tangible quality.

Gazzaniga one of the worst keepers i have ever seen. Has a highlight reel already of bloopers he is only 25 years old. Yet we could of gone and got young freddie woodmantipped for the top or even Tim Krul who newcastle were desperate to shift.

You know what happens now Levy will go round annoying everyone and we wont get any deals because everyone knows we have left it too late and we are desperate.

Agree LLM. I am fed up every year with our club's approach to the transfer window. All other clubs buy early and integrate new players into their pre-season training games etc so they are au fait with playing and training styles when the season starts. Another few google-able panic buys coming up before Thursday I reckon. Hate our approach year in year out to transfers. Once in a blue moon we get a VDV on deadline day but more often than not it's a Sissoko.

I have been fed up with Spurs and Levy's approach in the transfer window for years now. Get shot down by deluded Spurs fans on here but deep down they know I'm right and always have been. It's an approach that costs us points time and time again

I made an article about this issue after the Chelsea match, and ended up with posters Hengy and Analog defending Levy and me being called a fool.

It's just not good enough. Sissoko being turned to as an option, Janssen clearly not fancied by Poch, and Kane still can't score in August. Poch wouldn't suddenly not fancy Janssen, this would have been realised for a long time, so why the fack have we not done anything to bring in another attacker all summer?

Wembley and our dumbass transfer policy are facking us.

Happens all the time spurtle. Same old posters having a go at you for speaking the truth. A lot of them are such hypocrites because they will be saying exactly the same things. Difference is me and you have been vocal about levy's transfer approach for years now. Every season we are proved right by our slow stuttering start to a season.

Don, I even made a joke the other day that their NEW SIGNING Chris Wood would score and he does in the last minute. You can't make it up.

That's what a potential new signing could have done for us.

There's no law that says that we should have all of our players signed before the first game of the season, but the fact that Poch says he wants 3 more before the deadline is poor. Why are we waiting so long to try and get deals done? We've had ample time, it's just a stupid policy. If the deals didn't get done because the selling club moved the goalposts or another club came in late and beat what we were offering it would serve us right tbh.

Spurtle, I look at Liverpool and the Salah signing. That guy was signed early and has come in and smashed it. They don't even have Coutinho playing but they have enough strength in depth in attack to compensate. We have nothing apart from our 1st 11. We have not rectified this weak attacking depth for years now and Spurs fans just accept it and make excuses for Levy every single time.
