Camilla goes, 'Let's play '20 Questions'.
You've got to guess what I'm thinking of.

This might just be my favourite manifestation of RDD yet.

Ah, is Marvel that RDD guy?

Anyway back to the chant, I'm sure there are some black people who find the song uncomfortable but in no way is the song trying to be negative towards Lukaku in any way and becasue of that I feel people need to lighten up and accept it as a bit of harmless fun.

Plenty of people disliked the Park eating-dogs chant, apparently including Park himself.

As for the 'the stereotype is positive so it can't be offensive' crowd, you're wrong. As plenty of black people can tell you, having white people compliment them on their assumed physical prowess / athleticism / dancing skill leads reductively back to the old stereotypes that underpinned slavery. Black men, it was believed, aren't to be valued for their minds or their ideas, but as purely physical beasts.

We do of course admire physical prowess and of course most men would like to have a giant member. But if these real or assumed stereotypes are stereotypically flagged up recurrently in association with black people, there's a lot going on besides admiration. It's about defining someone by their colour, reducing them to the limited stereotypes associated with their race.

Linford Christie smiled through gritted teeth when the media dwelled upon his tight fitting running wear when he had won the Olympic gold, but later talked about how much he hated being talked about that way.

Stop the chant. It's not about political correctness. It's about not being an arsshole.

Bet Lukaku is loving this.
Wakes up this morning only to see the news regarding the Kick It Out organisation questioning a childish fan chant about the size of his c*ck.

Good morning to you too.

No. I'm it Rdd.

82 - Can you try and explain to lambeau and stretty why saying Jews love Gold is offensive please.

On White Men can't jump, loved the film, wasn't bothered by the racist insinuation at the time, still aren't (I might actually watch it now I've been reminded ).

The Lukaku Chant I find pretty cringe though. The thing is these days, if someone is offended (& there will be quite a few I'd imagine) you cannot do it without social & probably legal consequences.

As a white man, it does really irk that these commercial broadcasters continually feel the need to reinforce my inadequacy on the basketball court.

Well said Red Russian

I do find it a bit odd that white people feel they can tell people what constitutes something a black person should or shouldn't feel.

I don't think any of the people singing the song or arguing the toss in this forum are racist or even bad people. Just ignorant in a way myself and many others are guilty of.

The only way ignorance can be beaten is through education and if people at kick it out and other black people feel offended then consider that my education

Put yourself in Lukaku's shoes

Let's say a woman gets raped on a night out in Manchester and the only description she can give the police is the offender had an absolutely massive chap, then he gets the knock at the door at 6 am

Come on, no one wants that

To be fair, with a 24 inches it would be murder they'd want him for.

That's not what people are saying. Sure, there's a tenuous argument to be made that it's a racist chant, but if we try hard enough (which society seems to be doing at the moment) we can find offence in almost anything.

Nobody is telling anyone to suck it up and join in, but if there's no malice intended - which there clearly isn't - do we really need the media to kick up such a fuss about it?

If Kick It Out wants to stay relevant, there's plenty of monkey chanting still occurring every week in the nation hosting the World Cup next year, which they appear to be doing nothing about. I didn't see them getting this involved when a low profile player at a low profile Russian club was recently banned for several games for giving fans the middle finger after he was racially abused for the entire game.

The cynic in me thinks they're using a high profile player and club as a platform to remind us that they are still here.
