Winks

Winks is a very talented youngster who is going to be in and around the England set up for years to come so it makes sense to get him in early. I would find it very hard to get behind an England team with 4 or 5 Arsenal starters so I understand fans of other clubs being annoyed but its not coming from anywhere other than jealousy.

Just let the lad enjoy his moment, like Maguire in the last international I doubt he'll see the pitch but it's more about getting him in and around the England set up as a future player, he has huge potential and 21 isn't considered young in the context of football anymore

Just look at Sturridge. He plays about 2 club games a season and makes every squad without fail

Seriously? He’s probably played about 3 games in total this season when you add up his minutes. Southgate makes the point about players not deserving call-ups and then promptly puts someone in who doesn’t warrant it. This is why people can’t be bothered with the England setup anymore and focus on supporting their clubs
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And exactly how many minutes had the player Winks is replacing, Delph played this season, less than Winks I would say, so your point is invalid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

All your points are invalid. Try reading the post where I listed Delph as one of those who got a call up but didn’t deserve it

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So if either player did not deserve to get called up, who should be called up. The Ox is getting called up, despite not playing, so you have to come up with names to replace all these so called undeserving players. Don`t just say they don`t deserve to play, without giving alternatives that do deserve to play.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’ll do what I want. Not having you tell me what I should and shouldn’t do.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a valid point though.

It's about players that fit a system regardless if they play for their club or not innit

Winks played 21 league games last season, playing for a team going for a title. It's not as if he's suddenly appeared out of nowhere this season and has been picked.

I mean there's deserving a place based on number of games and there's deserving a place based on form, regardless of whether they've played less than others. I'd always go for the latter.

Winks out of all the alternatives has been in decent form going back from last season. I'd say he deserves his call up more than say Livermore, with his 10-15 more games.

Its a weird one this for me, I think he is a good midfielder and the kind that England need. Yet he hasn't done enough to warrant a place yet.

People moan about Winks getting a cap, but if we are being honest Southgate didn't have many options - such is the lack of quality in midfield. If the options are Harry Winks or Noble or Delph you know that it isn't a position we are strong in.

There was big cry at the weekend from the pundits for the inclusion of jonjo Shelvey, a different sort of midfielder a midfielder who could spray passes about. Well that's what Harry winks can do.

There is a tremendous upside to winks and he is a player that will improve without the disciplinary risk lottery like aforementioned shelvey.

Ox-chamberlain got in a ridiculous amount of squads despite barely bench warming for Arsenal and showing very little of note in performances other than giving the ball under no pressure.

the only other option really to call up was Wilshere I think and forget he plays for Arsenal he looks championship standard at best these days and again he isn't playing apart from against part timers in the Europa.

Given that a 3rd of the squad haven't done an awful lot to be there, Winks being given the nod is a very good thing. Good luck to the lad and well done.

Seeing as a number of players have been dropping out why is promoting from the U21s such a bad thing? Winks has played in the U21s numerous times and played numerous times in Spurs first team last season before injury.

He is a prime example of being deserving of a call up when the seniors are short on numbers. Players like Shelvey and Noble are a complete waste of time now no matter what they have to offer.

If I were an Arsenal fan would I want Wilshire to play for England while he still trying to regain fitness?

I understand the bar codes are upset that Winks got the call before Jonjo Shelvy. I have to admit I have only seen Shelvy play a few times (he was very good against the pool the other day) but should he have gotten the nod before Winks?

Shelvey had his chance, Winks is a solid player who will put a shift in, like how he carries the ball also

Although Winks has not played often, he is attempting to get in what is may not be the strongest midfield pair in the country, but is certainly a strong contender for it.

Of the other options available for Southgate, would anyone swap them for Winks in the sqaud?

If we had the opportunity for a straight swap for Winks with anyone who has not made the cut, would anyone take it, and if so who would it be?

Bear in mind Tottenham's Winks will be England's Winks - not a starter
