You versus Chelsea. Be interesting to see what happens.

Didn’t he turn Chelsea down?

I wouldn't be that hopeful if I were you. When did we last bring anyone in in January?

I rate Barkley a lot and think he could be a great signing for a few reams. I'd have him at LFC is Coutinho leaves but Spurs are a good fit and him behind Kane would be a good combination I reckon.

There’s probably an agreement put in place already between Spuars and Everton .

Why is everyone so unsure? The open secret is that the phone call he received whilst discussing a move with Chelsea was from Pochettino, who promised we'd match any Chelsea offer in January if he was happy to hold on.

I can't imagine Chelsea even trying. If you get rejected by a girl, pride stops you from going again. Surely!

I feel like probably the biggest risk to us getting Barkley is Koeman losing his job, and another manager coming in who sees the best in Barkley and fights to keep him.

Koeman has dropped an absolute boll0ck with Barkley. Marginalised him, said he must be sold, signs Klaassen and Sig for oodles and then doesn't sell Barkley.

Not sure where I stand on Barkley personally. Just feels like a sideways step but in Poch I trust. I would not be surprised if the deal has been agreed especially if the lad has indicated he wants to be at Spurs. Big if though. I know many assume that money is the main motivator but not always. Perhaps he really does want to play for us. Perhaps he feels Chelsea is not for him. You never know, stranger things have happened at sea...

Do we really need Barkley now Lamela is coming back? Or will Barkley be used in a deeper position?

Really don't want Barkley, would've took him 2 years ago but his career has stagnated something shocking. He'd be 4th choice behind Kante, Baka and Cesc.

I think Barkley would be a great fit for Spurs, I've wanted him ever since rumours first started appearing about us being interested.

Think he would offer something we don't particularly have - breaking forwards from CM positions into attacking positions. I know there are players who do this but I think he has the right blend of power and skill to offer something different. I think he still has a huge amount of unfulfilled potential.

Lamela been fit and good 1 season out of four so extra good players should never be sniffed at

The way things are going Koeman will not be here the next transfer window, Barkley may well have a change of heart once the dutch Walter Smith leaves.

I can absolutely see Lamely at Milan and Barkley coming in. As others have said though Barkley could stay if Koeman leaves. With Anchelotti on the market who knows. Maybe even someone like Tuchel.

Lamela! Genuine mistake

Anchelotti will end up at AC Milian imo

Looks the most likely. Good project at Everton though

IMO can’t see Barkley not leaving. Where ever he goes he’ll be stepping up a level.

Good chance if he comes to us he’ll end up back in England for World Cup.

I’d be over the moon to have him

No H in Ancelotti btw.

Good article OP, we need Barkley purely cos we have no other midfielder who is good at dribbling on the ball, which is what we need, when Dembele is out. Plus he is versatile enough to help out.

With regards to the weekend though I don't think Dembele or Barkley or whatever would have changed much. Genuinely we looked like a team who were playing at the Bernabeu; little effort and a lot of low risk football from us. Got the result and the players came out injury free for Tues which is what they clearly prioritised.

Good point H, England need Barkley more than Spurs or Chelsea do for sure.

Rate Barkley, class player

Yes, all day long, no question.

Lots of games, lots of options needed. We have doubts over Dembele's long-term fitness, and Lamela has had a year out.

Barkley would be:

A. Competition for a central midfield spot in a pair with Dier/Wanyama.

B. An extra option for playing in that diamond as the Sissoko/Winks or Eriksen alongside a DM.

C. Competition for a place in the 2 of the 3421.

D. Competitiom for a spot in the 3 of the 4231.

A versatile, malleable young English player, with his best years still to come. Absolute no-brainer for me
