That's another thing that annoys me. We are too nice and clean. When a player is running through in space (not one on one with keeper) take him out FFS. Take one for the team as they say.
----------------
tbf that's what can did the 3rd when ali was away then gt slated because it led to a goal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True it came from his own mistake when he gave ball away but he did the right thing in taking him out. Unfortunately at the free kick Matip made a schoolboy error.

--------------
couldn't believe the defending for the 3rd, literally 5 Liverpool defenders all go back to the 6 yard box leaving no one marking ali on the edge free, just watch it again it just didn't look right, you had two wide defenders outside the box and then 4-5 within the box marking just kane and they all went bk with him
We have had probably our most difficult start to a season in years. Of our 9 league games, 7 have been against teams currently in the top 8. We have only played 2 games against teams in the bottom half. Whilst we would still hope to be doing better for means that the teams we have played are in good form.
Add to that, we had a 2 legged tie against a top 4 German team, a home match against a top 4 Spanish team and an away match against the Russian champs. We also got drawn away to a premier league team (albeit not in great form) in the league cup whilst most of our rivals got lower league opposition. In fact 7 of our last 8 games have been away from home.
Whilst the results (and sometimes the performances) have been a little disappointing, there are a number of factors to take into account.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's up there with R1 who seems to think we have not gone backwards this season
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you dispute any of it?
----------------------------------------------------
All excuses that every team can say.
So you basically played a few decent teams, is what your saying, and it's too much for LFC right now.
That first goal was a shambles all round.

Need to cut out the errors and defence is an issue, but it isn't the end of the world.
People who expected a title challenge were not being realistic - we haven't spent the money to compete with the very best at the moment.
Based on the equivalent results last year, we are currently 1 point better off this year. Slight positive there.

It's far too early to say if we've gone backwards. Win a few games in a row and we'd be right in the mix for top 4. I'd wait til at least Christmas before judging.
Just remember last game of last season when at nil nil Lovren got away with one bang on pen. It was one of many mistakes he does some he gets away with and some he don't. That rashness will cost you over a season and when one person is making consistently bad decisions then as Neville said someone has to go

Not really. Arsenal for example have played 6 out of 9 games against teams in the bottom half. Their 3 games against teams in the top half have yielded them 1 point and they are still only 3 points above Liverpool.
They also got a home draw against lower league opposition in the league cup and the quality of teams in their Europa league group is lower than the a champions league groups over all.
They have had a rub of 4 aways games in 5 which is not as bad as 7 in 8.

I think Keane and Lovren suffer from the same problem. They're not bad defenders but they just don't suit the systems both managers are trying to play. Stick both in a defensively set up side like when there were at Burnley and Southampton, and they look good players.

Oh Absolutely, I'm not suggesting there was a conspiracy in the draw or anything, however when appraising results so early in the season (when teams haven't played everyone at least once) then you need to take into account the number of fixtures and the difficulty of said fixtures.
So in this case, people are saying Liverpool are having a bad season, but it has been a difficult start. Our next 10 games will include 8 teams who are in the bottom half of the table currently. I would expect us to beat the majority of these teams, and if we do, then things won't be looking so bad.
Of course we could lose all those games and then there would definitely be cause for concern, but at this moment things aren't dire.

Yes, I’m not wholly convinced by the ‘individual errors’ diagnosis.
Certainly, the second goal, when Lovren mis-judged the flight of the ball, was an individual error of Sunday League proportions...his confidence is shot.
But for the others, there are question marks over the systems we use.
For the first one, Lovren was blamed for trying to play Kane offside, but the entire back-line was pushing up. If the entire back-line pushes up, how can one of them decide to drop back? Then he would be blamed for playing him on, surely?
The question for me is why we were trying to keep a high-line when the ball wasn't very far in front of us, and there was no pressure on the ball? I think that question applies to the methods, rather than one individual player.
The other two goals were both occasions when we failed to get to a second-ball, and this issue is systemic with us. We line up in a straight-line, with a big gap in front of us, and there doesn’t seem to be any provision for getting to second-balls. Why we lined up like we did for the goal just before half-time is inexplicable.
I wonder if the ‘individual errors’ come from a lack of confidence in what they are being asked to do.
There are strange inconsistencies, too: I think I read that we have the best defensive home record, and the worst defensive away record. Last season, we defended well against the top-half teams, and badly against the bottom-half teams.
I’m not sure what to make of it. I still have faith in Klopp to turn it around, but I don’t think he’s exempt from criticism of the way we are defending. The ‘individual errors’ thing is a bit random, and there is a lack of confidence which makes me suspicious of what they are being asked to do.
The question for me is 'are they practising the right things?'

Neville has been repeating this all season. Most of our goals conceded are from individual errors.
Lovren is a shambles and needs shipping out. He took down all links to Liverpool from his instagram account yesterday.
Matip is a decent defender but has also lost a lot of confidence and really looks out of place alongside Lovren
Moreno is not bad as back up but should no way be starting.
Klopp needs to stop buying attacking players and spend all his budget on a brand new defence. I would keep TAA, Robertson and Gomez as back up as they are hungry and all have good potential. The rest need shipping out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You could argue they're still on a steep learning curve, but TAA and Gomez have made some horrendous mistakes too.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Completely agree. TAA gives away far too many fouls for my liking. Gomez is going to become a good player if he isn't learning from the morons around him.
The one thing you can guarantee with Liverpool over the past 4 years is that someone will ALWAYS give away a dangerous FK, corner, or worse, a penalty inside the last 5 mins of a half.
Time and again it happens. I used to think it was Skrtel, now Lovren but Lucas did it, even Cara was guilty of but it appears to be a 'feature' of Liverpool's game. For some unknown reason the team seam to get complacent near the end of a half and you just know that mistake is coming.
That IS a team thing that I have mentioned on numerous occasions. I really dread the last couple of minutes of either half of any match because I now expect us to concede during those periods of every match.

You could argue they're still on a steep learning curve, but TAA and Gomez have made some horrendous mistakes too.

Neville has been repeating this all season. Most of our goals conceded are from individual errors.
Lovren is a shambles and needs shipping out. He took down all links to Liverpool from his instagram account yesterday.
