Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity at work.

Great to hear @Keir_Starmer speak about Labour’s new deal for working people:

πŸ’₯ Day one rights for all
πŸ’₯ £10 minimum wage
πŸ’₯ Decent sick pay
πŸ’₯ A ban on zero-hours contracts

These policies would benefit millions! #TUC21 https://t.co/cqcDOo5ekg
----------------------------------------------------------------------
An outright ban on zero hour contracts is stupid and it's just a lazy populist vote winner. When I was in uni most students appreciated them. Definitely agree with limiting them, but not ban. If we are moving minimum wage up to £10 that's £21,000 per year for someone working 40 hours per week. That's moving into the territory of skilled jobs so I mean this with as little offence as possible, it will be disgusting if we end up in a situation where a burger flipper has a similar salary to a skilled graduate worker. Other two are good policies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The minimum wage should be above £21k for anyone working full time.

Most 'skilled' jobs aren't really that skilled (don't argue about Doctors and the like). I firmly do believe that most of the population could do most of the jobs if they had the opportunity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
People in low paid jobs attend food banks in the uk and are at times far worse off than folk on ESA and UC, which is weird.

People should be paid proper.....end of.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It really is that simple... actually, maybe not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just wanted to add I am for minimum wage increases and £10 seems reasonable, but this should not come without a plan for the tier above which is filled with skilled graduates who risk simply becoming minimum wage workers if their salaries don't also increase.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I go along with that. πŸ‘
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you guys are wanting all jobs to be graded and a minimum wage to be placed on all jobs?

Win by elections in Tory constituencies?

apart from that I have no idea, they've been a pointless party since Charles Kennedy stepped down as leader.

Funny how many right wing conservatives there are, who don't trust market forces to dictate wage rises, and instead of seeing the benefit of uplifting everyone, seek to suppress a section who are deemed less worthy.

Any decent employer will maintain the gap to the minimum wage, to retain their staff, if they don't value their employees or jobs that highly, then feck em.

Everyone deserves dignity and a liveable income, regardless of the capacity you were born with in the genetic lottery.

One thing you’ll find is that those a step or two uo from minimum wage will be guaranteed a 40 hour working week and yearly pay rises in line, if not above inflation. Whereas those on minimum wage ZHC’s have seen it rise below rethink cost of living with one week getting 40 hours, the next 15-20.

IMO zero hours contracts should only be offered and advertised as part time positions. All full time advertised jobs should be a 40 contract.

The onus is on the opposition is to present a credible alternative for the electorate; Labour have failed to do this since 2007.

Pointing at the Tories and writing lists as we see is above is not going to win over the electorate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't see labour leadership posting on here. We're just guys on a forum so you can't really throw this crap at people because they criticise the current government.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was referencing the Tory vs Labour discussion and why Tory voters keep voting them in as opposed to Labour so it was entirely relevant and not crap at all

This is one possible explanation

“ There is also a political edge to how Johnson’s chaos is distributed. Benefits claimants, key workers and the young are more exposed than property owners and pensioners. As Thatcher did, Johnson and his ministers talk about Britons taking more responsibility for their lives while quietly making sure that the social groups inclined to vote Tory are cushioned by state subsidies and tax advantages. For these groups, the government offers not chaos but continuity: endlessly rising house prices, old-fashioned English nationalism, near-perpetual Conservative rule.”

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/sep/17/boris-johnson-politics-chaos-reshuffle-conservatism?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Coupled with an ageing population more likely to not just vote but vote Conservative.
